Bullets from 100 gr. to 220 gr. are readily available

In terms of factory loads, the lightest bullets I'm aware of was (I don't think it's offered anymore) 110 grains. Aside from the Remington "Accelerator" sabot configured bullets, does anyone know of factory loads lighter than 110 grains for the 30-06?

Ooops. Just the reloader showing in me, SW. Been reloading since the 1951 and only factory I've purchased since is a box or two for comparison each time I start reloading a new caliber. I think you're correct that no factory loads under 110 gr. Shot a lot of jackrabbits with 93 gr. Luger and 100 gr. Hornady Plinkers back then.

Federal is apparently still loading 110 gr. Barnes TTS bullets:

ETA: I see Midway shows discontinue now.

As I said earlier I always look to GunBroker and eBay for pre 64 Model 70 rifles and parts, but there is another source that will show these rifles for sale and it is Cabela's. Just use Google and type in Cabela's Used Firearms and then go to rifles. The post 64 rifles are mixed in with the pre 64 version so you have to go down the list until you find the one that looks interesting. The Cabela's rifles seem to be priced about 30% higher than those available on GunBroker. I think Cabela's has buyers out looking for estate sales because to me they couldn't be taking that many rifle in on trades. Also, these rifles are at Cabela's stores all over the country so if you wanted to buy one you would have to deal through your local gun shop. If anyone is interested in acquiring several of these rifles it would be good to get a FFL Curios and Relics license so you don't have to go through a Dealer when you buy a rifle or receiver.

I’ll bite, Steve. A number of years ago I bought the rifle I had always wanted. I have some Finnish ancestry so I naturally, beginning as a child, came to covet a Sako. Years passed and I finally gave up a job that had prevented me from hunting (huge time commitment through the fall) and started looking at rifles. I found a lovely Sako AV that someone had butchered the stock trying to shorten the LOP. I picked it up on the cheap. I hunted with it for a number of seasons and took deer and elk including my best blacktail buck. I have since relegated it to the safe in favor of, ironically, a Model 70 classic. I have no intention of selling it and I still like it very much. Perhaps, one day, my son will hunt with it but if not, it will remain where it is where I can admire it and appreciate all the nostalgia and memories it brings of clear, frosty mornings heading up the logging road with my granddad to the stories of the old brothers favorite hunting places like “uncle Paul’s ridge” or “the cupboard”. I’m grateful to have it. Best of luck on your search.

I can't remember where I read it but if you see a gun at a Cabelas that is not local they will send it free of charge to the Cabelas nearest you for your inspection. No obligation to purchase. I don't know if this is gospel or not.

Another great thing about the Win M-70, especially the Pre-64's, is that they are the basis for fine custom rifles. Which is whey they are the all-time favorites of custom rifle artists. An example being this .458 Win Mag that has had the full treatment: including drop box bottom metal, octagon barrel with quarter rib for express sights, classic London best style stock, tasteful engraving with niter and case color accents..
