Gun manufacturers putting a "hold" on sales?

Here's my guess as a former Beretta dealer. Cabela's advertised price is lower than Berettas MAP ( minimum advertised price). To be a full line Beretta dealer you have to sign an agreement not to advertise any price below MAP or you risk losing your dealer status. This is the reason you see certain items from certain brands the identical price at every dealer.

I should note, this is at Bass Pro. They said they honor Cabela's pricing. There is a Cabela's down the road.

I'm going to go after work and chat again. If I need to, I'll just drive the 30 minutes to Cabela's if that's the issue.

Thanks Rule303, (and someone else said something similar) that's the info I'm looking for.

I don't think it was a scam.

This story reminds me of some (some-not many) clerks at Walmart who hid bricks of .22LR during an ammo panic years ago-for family or friends.

The point is that there might be deception in staffs’ comments to customers.

Seems like a lot of time and money spent here to get the sale price. Diminishing returns.

I’ve only bought two firearms from Cabela’s. Both were used out of the gun Library and both were excellent deals. It should be noted that this was prior to the Bass takeover. Since the takeover, I’m not a big fan. The only items I purchase there now are meat processing stuff....and only if it’s on sale.

There hasn't been a recall of handguns in the 92 family in quite some time (03?). Only recall Beretta has is on the Neos 22s. Sounds more like there is an issue on Cabela's side.

I'm betting it is a serial# issue as stated. Perhaps the serial# was not logged into the system or someone with dyslexia entered it in wrong. It may not have shown up 'in stock' when scanned or shown 'sold' yet it was sitting on the counter. The serial# on the box may not have matched the gun itself, etc. So many possible options to cause a red flag. I'm willing to bet it is a clerical error of some kind and will be resolved. Some times there are clerical errors.

100% what happened, as far as I can tell and from taking to multiple managers at Bass Pro and Cabela's.

Piecing together what they are saying, because it's corporate policy (assuming) to deny fault hahaha.

Basically, the printed bar codes on the side of the case do not match the gun. They are missing an extra "0" somewhere in the number. Since Cabela's and Bass Pro run off the same computer with the same scanning system, corporate shut down sales until they get new bar code stickers. And because it is a big corporation, they will put a hold until every lawyer looks at it.

It's a non issue at a small shop, because they can do stuff differently for their ATF Book. But since it's a big box store, my Beretta is in purgatory.

So somewhere between the distributor to the shelves, someone messed up on their keyboard.

But I'm really glad I didn't call the ATF, FBI, BBB, USPS, or even the PMS due to a clerical error. Thanks for looking out for me fellas, but some of ya have your foil hats a little too tight haha. Love y'all!

Very weird. I would continue the search. I just looked on GunBroker and found one for $598 + shipping, but no tax. You'll have to get it shipped to your local FFL and pay the transfer fee; probably $25-$30. You'll have the whole deal for about $650. Tell Cabela's goodbye.
