For any interested parties Primary Arms has the Caldwell brass catcher on sale right now. It's a velcro model that has a hinge so it flips away from the upper. For $7/ea I couldn't pass up trying one out. Hopefully it works as advertised and I can finally ditch the cardboard box I've been using lately..

THANKS, just ordered 2 of them, one as either a back-up or a gift.

I've got 2 of their other designs, but the swing away at $6.99 ea was just too great of a temptation...

I don’t want to rain on the parade but I had one years ago and switched to the Picatinny style. The Velcro type work but often slip out of position, acting more like a backboard to reflect brass back at the chamber.

Gloryfire makes a Caldwell knockoff in the 1913 style, I’ve ordered 3 on Amazon for under $20 shipped. They stay put and are easily removable, with extra bases available to swap between rifles.

I have both models. I use the picatinny mounted version on my flat top uppers and the velcro version on my A1/A2 uppers. Yes the velcro version does slip sometimes. Other than that, they both work.

I have both also.

I have the rail mounted version with multiple pieces of the mount (Gloryfire versions) to move the catcher from gun to gun. Unfortunately my 3Gun rig, the gun I shoot the most, has a BUIS and I'm out of rail/space on that gun. So I use the older 1 velcro strap model and I added a piece of bootlace to the back of the frame that goes around the pistol grip and over the charging handle. It works and is stable, but I'm hoping that the swing away with it's two velcro front straps is an improvement.

For the sale price it's worth a shot.

Part of the reason I ordered the velcro model is due to me having plenty of ARs to swap between. All slightly different in style and not all have a pic rail that's easily accessible for such use. I wouldn't expect it to be a perfect system, and I'm already contemplating modifying one with my heat gun to contour the hand guard a bit more. I ordered 2 as well ;), at that price why not.

Thanx brasscollector. I've been looking at these the last few weeks . For that price I'll give it a shot.

I ordered one last night for $6.99. Sale must have ended around midnight. I went to forward it to some friends this morning and it was back up to $29.99

These people don't mess around. I ordered mine Saturday, had an e-mail Monday morning they had shipped, and they were at the PO Wednesday morning. Eventually the wind will quit blowing and I'll get to try mine out.

Just to mention, a large Caldwell version hit my door- today, (model 122560), which is free standing, and has tripod connectors.
DIMENSIONS: 19" H x 17" W x 16.5" D.

Mine will arrive this afternoon. With current shipping times, I can't complain about ordering late Sunday night and things arriving today. I will compare it to the older Caldwell velcro brass catcher that I have.

I have never been disappointed by Primary Arms when it comes to shipping.

I cheated and mounted one to a section of keymod picatinny rail which will quickly attach to about 90% of my ARs. Nothing pretty or fancy for sure but after a little finessing it seems like it should work as I want.

Here are pictures of the old style vs new style. The new style definitely has a bigger opening but the OAL of the bag is shorter. The dual straps will help keeping it in place. Definitely worth the sales price for sure.

My experience is similar to yours. Bought one back around 2012. It worked okay on my DPMS if I was careful. It absolutely wouldn’t stay on my son’s Stag. The rear part would slip off the shell deflector. It is an older style and doesn’t have a swing. I’ve never been much of a swinger, maybe it’s time I give it a shot.

I have one of the old style catchers. NOT so great at it's job and that's why I bought it's big mouthed sibling.

Same reason for me too. The rail mount catchers work fine but the old style velcro could be finicky. The weather turned cold and rainy here. I can't wait try out the new one.
