On a different forum, someone was asking about a wood and steel 9mm carbine. It brought to mind a company that I had corresponded with called Special Intrest Arms.

I then discovered that the website for that company is gone. What he had done was to install 9mm barrels on RIA 22tcm carbines. With that in mind I fired off a short letter to RIA:
First, I have an M22 TCM BA rifle and I like it. However, there was a version that was being supplied by the aftermarket, and is no longer available, that I would like to see as a factory offer.

I would be interested in a 9mm bolt action rifle. This was done, for a while, by Special Interest Arms, but they no longer offer it. It was based on the M22 TCM BA and in conversation with the owner, I was told that he stopped making them during a long period where it was hard to find the M22 TCM BA rifles.

I realize that a 9mm bolt action rifle would have a very limited market; but, as your M22 TCM BA shows, your company is well equipped for the manufacture of niche market products.

Thank You,

I really wasn't expecting a reply, then this came to me from RIA:
Your suggestion has been forwarded to management for product development. Hopefully, this will be considered and will be available in the near future.

Thank you,

What jumped out to me, in this short reply, was the use of the word "near" in "the near future." I am not going to get too excited yet, but I hope this portends a 9mm carbine. Yes, I would buy one (assuming it is in RIA's normal price band).

I don't get too excited about qualitative words. Lots of times they are used just so the person can be vague. Kind of like telling a child we will go "in a bit", because "we are going to leave at 6:00PM", would get something less complacent than, "O.K."

A less constrained corporate response than one might expect. It depends a bit on who wrote it. Was it a U.S. representative of Armscor? Hard to believe he/she would dare depart from bland legalspeak. Filipinos frequently have an excellent command of English and are, generally speaking, delightfully polite, if not necessarily overburdened by a terribly rigid adherence to the strict truth.

I wouldn't hold my breath. But if you wouldn't mind writing to the Freedom Group about a revival of the Marlin Camp 9, it would be appreciated...;)

Id buy one in an instant. I was just talking to my ffl buddy about the .22tcm, and id like to try it also, but ammos non-existant here, and i dont want to load for it.
A 9mm version would be cheap to feed and useful to me.

I have long posited that 9mm would be a great short range training cartridge, if only a suitable gun existed.

Of course, no one cares because NLR22 et al, but I still like the idea. If the price lined up with me having funds, and the "tactical" is available again, I would be interested in one.

Ruger PCC?

I even already have a 9mm upper for the AR. It's my indoor practice/IDPA gun for the 5.56.

A turnbolt 9mm could be precision rifle practice.

If my precision rifle was a large frame AR, sure, I can imagine setting up a 9mm upper with a scope, etc. but I "just" have a 700 in a chassis.

I have a Ruger PC9 and a CMMG Resolute 300 ARC. Those are fun, but a nice trim bolt gun would be tons of fun for stalking jackrabbits in the desert. Yes a .22 LR or Mag or 17 HMR could do the same thing, but I like choices. It would also make a great gun for sitting around and plinking without huge financial consequences. If I sound like I am inventing reasons to buy one, I probably am, but life is short!

And here is what we could expect:

Seems like a fun gun to me.
