As my issued glock now has a RMR on it, I am looking to standardize my off duty to a red dot setup as well. I currently carry a Shield and am looking at switching to a P365 and have the slide milled for a sight.

I know the RMR is kind of the standard and is tough but $500 is a lot of coin. Are there any alternatives that are as reliable for less money? Also, what size sight will fit the slimmer slide on the P365 best?

I want to stay with around a 3-3.5 MOA dot if possible and need the auto brightness.

Thoughts?

The RMR type 2 sells for $429 with free shipping at the moment, and could possibly be found on sale for as low as $399.

The SRO has a larger window and trades off durability (resistance to glass breakage when dropped). I think the trade-off is a good one. I prefer better performance in use over a little security against an unlikely contingency. That's also why I prefer my sight picture to be uncluttered, without BUIS.

The other red dot I think is worth considering is the Leupold Delta Point Pro. I see it advertised today for $399 with free shipping. It has a larger window than the RMR. I don't know how it compares to the SRO in terms of glass size.

I have handled all the brand-name mini red dots on the market, mounted on Glocks. They're all pretty good. The Aimpoint has an enclosed emitter. That's a good thing but adds some bulk. Even some of the imports are pretty good. I had a Vortex Razor for a while and it worked fine. Even the Holosun was pretty cool with the selectable reticle and the solar-panel. Still, my money would be on Trijicon or Leupold.

I continually hear good things about the holosun.

After some experimentation I prefer something smaller for CCW, preferably with standard height back up irons, just the way the gun comes up feels better to me with the lower profile POA and sight picture. Not to mention less sight means less to bulge and tear up belt IWB

Something like the Shield RMS would top my list.

The holosun is what many recommend that has the same footprint as the RMR.
It is chinese and during non-panic times a little cheaper.
This is a tabletop comparison of the Trijicon RMR Type 6 and the Holosun HS507C.

I put a Vortex Venom on my Glock 26 recently. I paid a little over $200 for it and they're great about standing behind their products. I also have a P320RX. I bought it a few years ago and had problems with the Romeo 1 sight. Per Sig's cusotmer service they made changes to them, which should correct the issues they were having (shutting down). I was within the 5 year warranty period and they replaced it at no cost. I haven't had the new one long enough to know if it's been corrected, but it's working for now. Both are going to be a little wider than your P365.

The 507c gets a ton of praise online. I only have experience with DPP and RMRs. Both of which I have had zero issues with over the years.

The Holosun optics are pretty much the standard for "less expensive than an RMR" red dots. Sage Dynamics on YouTube has done extensive torture testing on the Holosun red dot and it's very impressive. I think the Holosun is a great choice if you're able to spend the money on an RMR.

I like the features of the Holosun 407C V2, same as the 507C V2 with only a single red dot. I prefer the simpler sight picture. And they have a side mounted battery so you don't have to re-zero everytime you change batteries.

You said you’re looking for something for “off duty,” right? There are deals out there for Trijicon as well as others for LE personnel. Assuming that’s your job.

Thanks for all the replies! Holosun is now on my radar as well. I plan on picking up a P365 here fairly soon and will go from there. All in it will be roughly a $1,000 into this thing but it will be worth it to remain consistent with training and carry.

I recently put a Holosun HS507c (version 2) on my gen4 Glock 19 mos and I'm quite pleased. I finally received a holster for it and it carries the same as it did without.

The Mepro FT Bullseye is interesting, didn't work great for me but I am going RDS partly as I am old, eyes suck. I need to sell mine if anyone wants to try it though. It is VERY clever and interesting, split the difference between irons and an OEG.

I have gone with J-Point on two of my guns. Deliriously happy with the dot, etc. but also very small. Happier with that than RMR size, and shape.

Left is the J-Point on an M&P 1.0 CORE, right is a Holosun on a P10F.

Burris ff3, great warranty.
I'm a fan of the Fastfire, and can verify that Burris honors their "no weasel words warranty", but the fact I've had to use it on two occasions means they are ultimately for range guns only. I have six, they work, but for carry I spent the dough for RMR dual illumination fiber optic -- no batteries.

It's all fine and dandy, but aren't we talking about SIG P365 here? Not even P365XL with factory cut, it's a custom cut. So, a couple of things:

1. Isn't that slide a little too narrow for RMR? I understand that a sealing plate may help at least to prevent the exposure of the electronics, but is that enough? What else is there aside from Shield RMSc?

2. What is that the most future-proof cut? I have a slide with an RMR cut and I hate it. You can find adapters for RMR on any other cut, but no adapters for anything else on RMR cut.

All those pictures are cute and all, but aren't answering what's really in question, I'm afraid.

I bought a Swampfox Kingslayer Micro Reflex to try. Right now it is on my S&W 22A. It uses the same mounts as the Trijicon RMR. I'm using the supplied Picatinny Rail Mount that came with it. They retail for $220 directly from Swampfox Optics. I don't know how it compares to an actual Trijicon, Holosun, Burris, or Mepro sights, time will tell. They have a 50,000 round guarantee.

I know the RMR is kind of the standard and is tough but $500 is a lot of coin.

Gen 1 RMR's can regularly be found in the mid-$300 range. Throw on an anti-flicker sealing plate ($15) and you've ameliorated the problem that the Gen 2s address. You can also save even more on RMR with gift cards from Raise.com. Eg -- a couple of black Fridays ago Cabela's was selling the type 1 RMR I wanted for $350. I bought that much worth of Cabelas gift cards on Raise for something like $315, then used the gift cards to fund the purchase.

If I had to go with a non-Trijicon brand, it would be Holosun. However, China is on my naughty list at the moment and I'm looking to avoid exporting my dollars there where I reasonably can.

I have a leupold dp pro 2.5 on my canik tp9 elite combat

Great little optic with clear glass

Very small and robust and i am quite sure this is very well suited for your needs

Also has an auto on function that works great , so the optic will be on by the time you pull it out of your holster and want to aim

Battery replacement can be done without having to remove it from the pistol

The 365xl with the Romeo Zero would be my choice. The dot fits the slide already, holsters are available.
