Do any of the Safariland speedloaders clear the current factory grip on j frames? I’ve yet to find a speed loader that works but prefer the factory grip for comfort.

They work with the factory Magnas :)

Ive never been a fan of the S&W factory rubber grips. Always seems to big and bulky and defeating the purpose of the size of the guns. On the bigger guns, due to their design, they also tend to be painful too.

Ive used the Houge Bantam grips on my J frames in the past, and my Safariland speed loaders worked with them. I think they are a more comfortable grip too.

My favorites for the J and K frame snubbies are still the factory Magna grips with a T grip. Keeps the gun small and are still very comfortable to shoot with.

Has the look too. :)

According to five star, their speedloaders clear the grip. Can anyone confirm that?

Not sure they will be much better. The body of the five star appears to be the outside diameter as the Comp I they both have to go around the outside of the rounds so they have to be close to the same OD. Comp I are really thin between the OD of the speed-loader and the round.

Not sure if they will help much but a Safariland Comp I J-frame speedloader is 1.33 inches in diameter. Maybe if some other member can measure the body diameters of other available J-frame speed-loaders it might help OP select one that will clear more grips.

I’ve ordered the hogue boot grip which says it is relieved for speedloaders. I’ll see if it is as comfortable as the oem grip.

I have enjoyed these. Get faster all the time with them. I like the way they carry.(I also prefer the factory grip)

Thanks Ernie Bass. I have never seen this J-Clip before. I will have to buy a couple and try them out.

On my J and K frames I have no problems with HKS speed loaders. Some folks don’t like them but they have always worked for me.

The Safariland speed loaders work fine in my J frame 627-2 EDC with the factory installed rubber boot grips. The chambers are loaded with Federal HST's and the Safariland speed loaders are loaded with Remington Golden Sabers as the stubby HST's are difficult to insert and load quickly but the Remingtons work fine as any .38 special with a longer bullet should. The clearance of the speed loader is close but it works easily with a little practice.

I shudder to say this, but you can clearance the grips with a Dermel tool. I make my own grips, and it's easy to do.

That’s what I’ve ended up doing. I tried the hogue boot grip but it also hangs up. The five star speed loader combined with Hornady Critical Defense and a dished out factory grip is working well.
