Rossi 92s - Any problems with the reintroduced rifles?

As was earlier posted Steve’s Gunz makes a DVD that is a great tool to show you how to open up any of the Rossi 1892’s and work on them. My Braztech-era .357 model had an extractor that chewed up the rim of the cases until I lightened the tension using a grinder to thin it out per the DVD.
I also bought replacement plugs for the dumb safety lever on the bolt and metal cartridge followers from Steve for my .45 C and .357 Rossi’s, so far all good.

Stay safe.

I've been looking for a lever gun in 45LC or 44 mag and people on gun boards everywhere swear by Rossi. But when I read about their CS and repair policies, that really makes me want to look at other brands and give Rossi/Braztech a pass. So, how long have they been cranking out these new rifles?

I was in your position last month. After much reading and advice I bought a JM stamped Marlin 1984 Cowboy Ltd. in 45 LC. Have yet to really put it to the test. But, on the first shoot Found that it feeds well, is fairly accurate up close, and has ZERO recoil. It is also judged by cowboys shooters over-all (from what I have read) as on of the better choices.

I had one a couple years ago, rough around the edges, but otherwise accurate and reliable with .357 ammo. With .38s it would launch them out of the gun with the empty, but shimming in the cartridge guides a little fixed that.
Same here. I broke the ejector at about 5000 rounds. It was a fun time.

Got one in SS 20" in .357/38 few months ago. Very shiny out side but the machine cuts inside the action were rough like done with a hack saw, got the DVD to avoid mistakes, then smooths all surface of bolt, carrier with wet sand paper get better.
The key point per Steve’s Gunz (dvd author) reside on the length of the cartridge ammo to short (ala .38) might fail to go in the chamber where the .357 reach better.
Uberti have a Winchester 94 clone already, but wit a salty price and better warranty. The new Marlin in .357/38 are nice IDK if they fix the early de coloration of their barrels bluing otherwise seems overall better now.

Aside from being rough inside, did the rifle operate properly as received?

After the massage, new spring and follower, it did only twice, if you try to speed up your cycling is the culprit of bullet size and so on.
I didn't have any 357 ammo on the range, so tried only .38 special that I have around one bullet got loose under the carrier.
Later, I made at home some .357 blanks and run fine make sure you call the lever with a full cycle and authority.
I wonder if the blue model are smooth comparing to SS one.

There's a Rossi R92 forum that has a treasure trove of information. I have 4 of them. After a little work, they run smoothly and the cases drop at my feet. I'm not a gunsmith by any stretch.

The buckhorn sights are.... interesting. The ones I have handled would be hard to shoot accurately.
Tang sights by Marbles are available and not a pain to install. I have been eyeing a Rossi in .45 for a while and hate buckhorn sights and looked for other options. The tang sight is best, easy option.

Stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse today to see if they had any Rossis. They had two, a blue 16" 44 Mag and stainless 16" 44 Mag. Prices were $530 for the blue and $580 for the stainless, pretty darn good if you ask me.

I handled the stainless and the lever on it seemed pretty rough - a short but kind of heavy throw. I also forgot how much I hate buckhorn sights until I looked down a set again - my Interarms Rossi has square post sights like a pistol.

Wood to metal fit.. .ehhh, we knew Rossi was never very good about that.

Got to say, I was kind of turned off by it. The price was right, but it just felt sort of cheap.

That's with a grand total of 0 rounds down the bore so don't take that as any kind of final judgement, but I think I'm going to put my gun money elsewhere.

Have you handle the Rossi in blue. I wonder if they are better machined.

I have an old Rossi 92 in 357 from the Interarms days and love it. One of my favorite guns that I own.

Anyway, I've thought about adding another one to the gun hoard - maybe a 357 in 20" or a 44 magnum. But Rossi had shut off manufacturing for the 92s for years, moved it I think to another factory, and recently started it back up again. And at least with my experience with manufacturing (currently working in circuit design, but the manufacturing guys are never too far away), new processes, new facilities, etc, usually means teething issues.

For the guys who have bought the new batch of Rossi 92s, how have they been? I know the QA and QC over at Rossi was never particularly tight to begin with, but is there anything notable about these new guns? How do they stand up to the earlier ones?

I made a thread months ago about my new Rossi that was having feeding issues, I had only tried Fiocchi ammo which I like that ammo but it jammed constantly and was disappointed in the Rossi

Went shooting last Sunday first time in months since COVID started, tried Prvi 158 gr FPJ in it and it is working fine so far, as long as it keeps doing so it will be a fun rifle to shoot. 10 shot volley at 100 yards rested I got this group, as the gun warmed last three shots went outside the black on the target.

For a group at 100 yards with a pistol cartridge carbine with open sights, I think you did quite well.

I'm glad you are having good time with your Rossi, your target are more than good with open sights.
I need to cool off my intentions of a .44 mag.
