Yeah that’s part of the issue. There’s a lot of up in the air possibilities. 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8spc, or if the army truly goes with a 6.8 diameter bullet.I was going to build a 18" 5.56 but the grendel makes much more sense. I'm looking for a nice medium weight 18" 6 .5 barrel that's adorable. Or just do a 16" m4 grendel. Then there's the 6mm arc coming out.
Barrels are fairly cheap and with a few bolt heads you can cover pretty much all of them. If the mili does standardize one I don't see ammo getting much cheaper then steel case 6.5grendel. I think hornady is going to make a run with the arc.Yeah that’s part of the issue. Something tells me there will be one victor, but I don’t want to invest until I figure out which will win. I’d like to say 6.5 Grendel is gaining steam, but whatever the army ends up going with may squash it’s momentum
I handload for lots of rifles I shoot. But for something that’s more utilitarian, I prefer both retail and handloading to be an optionIs hand loading an option? Not trying to side track too much, but if your itching to get started, loading your own eliminates the availability issue a lot. You can make what you want. It’s how I got started into 10mm auto and 38 Super. You can also tune a great load to your gun also.
If not, I’ll just share that my LGS’s do stock Grendel regularly. Not a big selection but it’s available.
Gotcha. Makes sense.I handload for lots of rifles I shoot. But for something that’s more utilitarian, I prefer both retail and handloading to be an option
