I doubt that you'll hear about it at all today from any American news outlet.

Right now they were doing everything they could to get a foothold on the beach.

If you were there, what weapon would you have liked to have? Garand, Carbine, Tommy Gun...
I watch a few national and local news reports and they all mentioned it, covered quite well...
 
Yes, I saw coverage. So if the thread is to complain about the media, it's going to close quickly.
 
My dad went ashore well after the initial invasion (I think he only recently arrived in Britain when D-Day went down). He was a tanker and was a driver and gunner in an M5A1 light tank. Of the small arms he used, he didn't care for the Thompson (it was heavy and awkward to carry) and liked the M1 Carbine (it was light and easy to carry), but when shots were fired for real, it was an M3 Grease Gun that saved his bacon. He never had bad words for the Grease Gun (other than it wasn't exactly "drop safe").
