Today was a good day at the range.
I got to take 100 rounds each of 200gn SWCs, 200gn LRNs, 230gm LRNs(the ones I thought were bad), and 230gn JHPs to shoot, and had a great time.
The XD fed, fired, and extracted all of them just like I hoped it would.
The only hiccup was with the SWCs. Two rounds cycled and fed the next round just fine, but did not 'cock' the striker.
The pistol returned fully to battery, but the striker indicator was not protruding from the rear of the slide.
Those two rounds felt and sounded just like all the others, and the brass landed at the same place.
Any ideas or experiences to share, guys?
Except for those two rounds, I had a GREAT day with my XD45 Mod.2 Tactical at the range!!:) 4 Rounds.jpg

It’s always nice to have a good day at the range! Regarding the SWCs, it may be your loads are very close to the minimum for your gun to cycle completely and some do and some don’t. Or, maybe the wrist wasn’t quite as tight for those that didn’t cycle completely. Either way, if you’re below max you may want to increase the charge a tenth or two. Good luck!

XD-45's are know to have an issues feeding SWC. It varies from gun to gun but a large majority of XD-45's do not like feeding semi-wad cutter. The rim of the fired case moves down the breach face, as the barrel unlocks, just far enough to protrude very slightly below the breach face and this expose edge of the rim catches the front edge of the semi-wad cutter in the magazine as the slide moves back over it. This "bump' slows the slide down enough to cause malfunctions. With most other bullet shapes this is not an issue as the spent case can slide up the smooth ogive of the bullet and/or the bullet pushed down slightly into the magazine.

My brother had an XD 45 that loved eating everything, but SWCs. They turned the gun into a pump pistol

My XD45 peels the brass back on the case mouth of the round in the magazine.

You seem to have one of the more egregious ones. The one I had would not feed SWC but it did not damage the rounds just short stroked the slide. But I knew I probably would when I tried it. I have seen XD-45 that will feed SWC but they seem relatively rare.

It's pretty bad. Really any bullet that leaves the rim hanging out there will have problems. It's a 230 ball gun for me.

My XDM on the other hand will feed almost anything.

This XD fed, fired , and ejected great with 200gn SWCs, but twice it did not cycle fully enough to reset the striker.
Heck, maybe I limp-wristed those two rounds. I doubt it, but since the other 98 worked fine, I guess it's a good possibility.

Wife's XD Mod2 would not take 200gr lead SWC no matter what I did with length. This one too jammed and crumpled the mouth of the next case in the mag to the extent that it was unusable.

I guess I am blessed.
Mine 'ran' on SWCs just great, and did NO damage to brass.
It just failed to reset twice.
I am thinking about loading the SWCs a little shorter(maybe 0.005") to increase pressure a tad.
I think that will make it operate 100%.

SWCs are finicky WRT the COL. If you’re feeding fine with the length you have, I’d bump the charge a bit first rather than change COL. I’ve had +-.005” make a difference between good and not so good. But, you’ve got control over both, good luck!

The COL is real close to too long for the XDs chamber now. They plunk, but just barely.
Next time out I will try a couple of magazines at 1.250 instead of 1.255 and see if they are reliable at that length.

In dry practice, the slides on every one of my XD and XDm pistols only have to move 1/4 to 1/2" or so to the rear to reset the trigger mechanism. Its tough for me to imagine how an XD slide could move far enough to the rear to eject a fired case without resetting the trigger.

The trigger operated properly and the gun fired on those two rounds?

It fed, fired, ejected, and fed the next round.
The only thing it didn't do is reset the striker/trigger on those two shots.
Otherwise, it was absolutely normal.
I'm going to the range for a while this afternoon.
If it does that even once, I am sending it to Springfield Armory for a check up.
