It’s nice when Hollywood gets it right

I was watching TV tonight when an ad for some TNT channel show called “The Alienist” popped up. Based on the costumes it looks like a late 1800’s - early 1900’s era show. (I’ve never heard of it before now.)

As the ad was rolling I caught a glimpse of a fine looking revolver bring cocked and held by a Police Captain in period uniform. Naturally I rewound the TiVo and paused it on what looks like a 1892 series Army Model in .38 Long Colt...

(Forgive the blue color, in the scene it looked like it was raining.)

With all the sorta goofy gun stuff in movies and TV that jumps out at us, it’s nice to see the prop master on a TV network really got it right.

Stay safe.

John Wayne fought in the Civil War and came out of it with his 1892 Winchester to track down his niece who had been abducted by the Comanches...that’s for real, man!:evil::p
If you think that was bad, you should check out the old series "Stories of the Century" That series ran for 2 years in 54 and 55, and stars Jim Davis of Dallas fame (The Ewings patriarch). It tried to tell the stories if famous outlaws, from the perspective of this Railroad detective name Matt Clark.

The funny part is that the stories it tells span some 50 years from before the Civil War up to the first decade of the 20th Century. Throught it all Matt always dresses the same, and always carries a SAA, even during the Civil War.

Oh, and never ages!

I like it when they get period guns right. When they use the wrong guns I try to look past it but sometimes you just have to wonder “What the heck are they thinking?”

One show that comes to mind that had the guns right was “Boardwalk Empire”.

I don't let minor errors spoil a movie but they showed the prohibition agent in Boardwalk Empire with a heavy barrel Model 10. That didn't come out until 1959 IIRC. It was in a scene during his training.

Well what did they get right? A handgun? That's the easy part. Hollywood usually gets the rest wrong. Firing about 14 rounds without a reload. Dusty showdowns at high noon. Stare down quick draws.

At least they didn't haul out the Beretta 92 that most of the criminals use on Criminal Minds . . . et.al. That gun sure gets around!
If you ever watch the old show "Hart to Hart" there was exactly one Colt Det. Special used on the show by the hero and all the bad guys. It was passed back and forth during filming and is never seen being held by two people in the same shot.

Hey...it's the std pistol of the US military. Of course you're going to see it a lot.

My favorite part is in old westerns, when they shoot their guns, it's like they try to fling the bullet out of the barrel. At that rate they probably get more birds out of the air than bad guys.

My favorite is the VERY audible safety coming when they draw a Glock [ with NO visible safety, yea they can be added ]

That was a standard on NCIS in the beginning.

As well as the HUNDREDS of times i have seen a 1911 fired with the hammer either down ---- or from LOCK BACKED SLIDE !!.
