Hi
I have had HK P30 for over 5 years now. No problems at all. It is one of my most favorite 9mm handguns ever. I carried it and shot it a lot until recently when for a change I shifted to P226 - for how long I don't know. I have a feeling I will be going back to my HK pretty soon.

I came across this article on P30's reliability: http://pistol-training.com/archives/2668

Any thoughts on this?

What has been your experience with P30? How many of you use it as your EDC?

Finally, I want to ask you if it is possible to install manual safety on it because mine is a de-cocker version V3?

Thanks

Love my P30 v3, it’s reliable & accurate even when I shoot WWB ammo, what more can I say?

I believe you can retrofit a non-S P30 to an S, although I wouldn’t want to do it.

I have the P30L with the safety and just love it, one of my top favorite 9MM pistols that I will never willingly part with and a hoot to shoot.

I suppose a safety could be installed but would require drilling holes in the frame which is risky if not done perfectly and that would surely void the factory warranty and decrease resale value substantially and I am pretty sure HK won't do it. IMO you would be better off selling what you have and buying the model with the safety.

Mine continues to hum along. I like it very much. I still prefer my P2000’s overall but I still love my P30 and I bought mine before the price decrease and I am STILL thrilled with it.

Not much has changed from this early “review” I did of mine. It was and still is a keeper. Had it out a couple months back before the unpleasantness.

I read your target quickly and saw 74 yards and thought well that’s just showing off. :). Great shooting though.

I had my P2000 out at the range today and it shot pretty well with Win 124 gr. NATO ammo which I don’t like and I don’t plan on buying any more.

I've had my HK P30 V3 for about 5 years as well. I love it. It reliably eats any 9mm I feed it. If I was only allowed to have one 9mm, this would be it. I have many classic, vintage 9mms in my collection that I immensely appreciate and would never part with. But that P30 is so dependable and well built. For a duty pistol the SA/DA trigger is not bad. It shoots well for me.

In the same archive you can find the durability test of S&W M&P and Glock 17 and they both ended well before the 90.000 rounds mark. That says something about the P30.
My father has one. Not a high round count but it never mulfunctioned. Accuracy is phenomenal.

I absolutely love my P30S! I've had three or four P30 & P30L guns and all were great. However, as much as I love my P30S I'd like to sell it and go with the P30 v1 LEM. My P2000 is LEM and while it's not quite as easy to shoot well as a single action it does offer benefits that are worth making the switch.

I have a VP9SK, which has been great. Does the durabiity of the P30 apply to the VP9SK as well? I know HK mentions the 90,000 round test in the material for the SK, referencing the barrel.

To answer your question, no. At least not specifically. But, it is a testament to how well HK designs and builds firearms. The reputation of both the VP and P30 is excellent from what I hear.

What's interesting to me is that the VP9 actually has steel where the slide meets the frame. It's not much, but the P30 does not.

Actually the P30 does have steel tabs in the frame for the slide to ride on but they are coated with poly that can take a long time to come off, especially if they are kept well lubed.

P30L here that I've owned for about 5 years an 20K rounds including a couple high-volume classes. It is an utterly reliable gun. (also own P2K, VP9 and HK45T)

I converted mine from V3 to V0 (Light LEM retaining the spurred hammer and de-cock) and sent it off to Lazy Wolf guns for a reset reduction package. The only other mods have been Trijicon HD sights and swapping the left side slide release to a thin short release from a P2K.

IF the balloon went up tomorrow it's the one I'd grab.

No kidding? Well, I learned something new today. That's interesting, as I have worn the finish off the sights pretty well but have not seen the steel tabs in the frame. I do keep mine lubricated, though.

@el Godfather, out of curiosity, why are you thinking about the manual safety? Do you want to carry cocked and locked?

I ask because all of my P30s (three and counting) are all LEM. The LEM is an acquired taste, but now that I have learned it, I really prefer it.

Wow! That is impressive, @Chuck R.

Ditto.

They are small, they don't look to be steel but they are steel. USP, P2000 and also the Walther P99/PPQ use more or less the same solution.

Yeah, I see 5-Shots posted a nice picture where the poly is flaking off the rear one. If still in doubt try putting a magnet against one.Trigger is also poly coated steel. I see comments where a lot believe the trigger is all poly on HK and fragile.

I have considered cocked and locked, but the more I think of it Incan do that with my USP so its no longer a serious consideration especially if it means drilling etc.

I too own both H&Ks and Sigs. Currently a P-30, VP9, and a Sig P-229 Nitron. My P-30 is my home defense and CCW. I find the ergonomics of the P-30 much more comfortable than my P-229. That said, The Sig is still one of my favorite pistols. IMG_2574 (1).jpg

You mean other than it being the go-to article about why a P30 rules? :D
And no you can't convert a V3 to a V3S; the frames are different.
