HK P30 Reliability and Durability

I have considered cocked and locked, but the more I think of it Incan do that with my USP so its no longer a serious consideration especially if it means drilling etc.

If you ever have a chance to pull the trigger of a P30 V1, you may find that you like the LEM. It's a long trigger pull, so I feel confident in the lack of a manual safety, but it's consistent from shot to shot. Just a thought.

I like the decock option. It gives me the SA DA pull option on the first shot.

The LEM is an acquired taste, but now that I have learned it, I really prefer it.

I’ve heard several really accomplished shooters say that if you train with an HK LEM trigger you won’t want to shoot anything else.

LEM is definitely an acquired taste. I personally couldn't warm up to it, and in the end I prefer the tactile difference of the DA initial trigger pull, as a reminder that Deadly Things Are About To Happen.

My P30SK is LEM and I am fine for it for CCW but I prefer DA/SA for home defense and range shooting. My P30L and HK45 are both DA/SA and will remain that way.

After doing a whole lot of trigger work with Larry Mudgett over a few days recently, I find I no longer particularly care about the minutia of trigger action. They all run if you do it right.

This was quite eye opening after 30 years of shooting various trigger variations while mostly pursuing lighter and crisper over that time. Doing it right is the real factor here.

I'm looking into a HK P30SK V3. It would be my first foray into the DA/SA style pistol. I'd be very interested in what you learned... Please share

Dislike the DA/ SA autos.
Nonsafety P30L for 500 bucks, hardly shot...four new mags, four used.

I bought it.

Up close n fast i do OK w the DA. If a longer shot is required and time allows, could thumb it and go more precise.

Its usable. Rather have a safety model and go cocked n locked.

Eh, thats that my 1911 is for lol

I have a P30 9mm decocker and a P30L 40 caliber with safety. I like both of them very much. I used to shoot them a lot when I lived in Pennsylvania but not much here in Hawaii. The only criticism I have of them is the grip is a little small, but I have big wide mitts. For that reason I prefer the USP series.

With the P30 modular grip, you can build up the back strap and the side panels to fit your hand, that is the way I have mine set up.

I understand but my hand is a little too wide, equating to the length of the grip, which can not be adjusted for with the grip panels. It not too bad, but the USP is a bit more comfortable.

I've had my P30 for over 10 years now (brief time non owner) and have used it not only in my carry rotation but used it solely for my MN PTC shooting portion of certification both times in those last 10 years. The first time back then, shortly after I needed money and sold it to a friend, and regretted it dearly. A couple years later after he put on upgraded Trijicon night sights he wanted to sell/trade it back to me which I didn't hesitate to do. Thus I had it for my last re-certification PTC class, and I'm pretty sure I'll not part with it again. I'm actually pretty good with it, I enjoy shooting it, and it has been nothing but reliable the whole time for both owners. I really can't say anything bad about it at all. It took me a while to get used to the mag release, but that's about it.

My P30 has taken residence in my daughter's dresser. Some day I will get it back, or get another one. For the short time I had it, I was very happy with it. I let my brother in law, who is a Glock 19 aficionado, shoot it. He came close to being a convert.

I will never buy another HK hammer fired gun that doesn't have the LEM trigger.

I had an HK45 for years and got used to the trigger. Then I got a VP9. Lovely striker trigger that, for a common service size pistol that is. Then I got a P30SK LEM. After owning and shooting the LEM gun for two years I realized I couldn't stand the HK45 trigger, and I wasn't willing to spend more money to make it better. I could've converted it, but if I'm shooting 45, I greatly prefer my Dan Wesson. So I got rid of the HK45.

I don't really miss it. Any future HKs for me will be light LEM or striker fired.

^^^^This^^^^ I believe is near exactly why I got my P30 back from my friend when I did. He could not get use to the trigger and was just getting into trigger mods on his other guns. He just didn't want to modify this one, and I was happy about that.

Only things I've ever changed in my H&K P-series guns is installing the factory spec'ed light trigger return and firing pin block springs. They make just enough of a difference at improving the trigger pull without making it retardedly light. Also, I shoot the **** out of them to break them in. Nothing improves a P-series trigger like 3000 rounds through the gun. :D

I'm more comfortable with my P30SK with the LEM trigger than a typical striker fired gun.

But, I go back and forth between the LEM trigger and a P30SK-V3 trigger (DA/SA trigger). With practice, I've gotten pretty good firing the DA trigger on the P30SK-V3.

I'll agree it is more a personnel thing.

Can you point me at those springs?

I had my P2000 with the v3 trigger out at the range today, and I was talking with one of the instructors who carries the same gun, and we were talking about the idea that this trigger is fine and gets better with practice. I’m shooting it SA most of the time anyway. We both agreed this gun doesn’t need a thumb safety and isn’t available with one. I asked him if he practiced thumb-cocking the hammer out of the holster, and he said that he does practice with his gun this way.

H&K part #s
209296 Firing Pin Block Spring - New Style Light
234389 Light Trigger Return Spring

note both those parts are the same as in the V1 light LEM setup, so if the part numbers don't work any longer just call HK customer service and ask for them by name.
the FPBS was used on the P30, P2000, P2000SK, HK45, and HK45c

also note I didn't change to any different power hammer spring, since the lowest listed was 12# and was already in my guns from the factory.

Thanks, they are on the way. One of the things my daughter has complained about is the weight of the double action. She can pull it, but it is very hard for her.

I actually ordered two sets, one for the P30sk, that I plan to get soon, if I like what this does to the P30.
