Lee Load All

Yes I made some slugs. Don’t have the right wads for them. At least I don’t think I do.

1 ounce load wads are what I think is needed but I'd try what ever I had. Even if the petals cave in on top of it that isn't going to make a difference firing a slug.

Put one of the slugs, in one of the wads and try to push it through the choked part of the barrel. Probably can push it through with one finger. Even if it feels tight, if you can push it through at all with just finger power, it isn't going to hurt anything.

I've had a Load All for five or six years now and by primer count have loaded over a thousand shells. Mostly light birdshot loads, maybe a hundred slugs, and a few heavy field loads. There is a learning curve to the amount of pressure to apply. It sounds like you're on top of that though. Loading your own is a lot of fun. I really like being able to customize my loads.

Good luck!

I like that when I run out I can cast more and load my own. No empty shelves here. The other part is learning how to cast and how to reload shotgun. Never too old to learn.

I went to my dad's today and fired some rounds I loaded. They would not cycle my SLP so I guess I need to switch out the gas orifice for the lower power one. The rounds that I made all cycled manually. I don't like to do that type of testing in the house too much. So field testing is the way to go. Should head back this week to try a few more. Found that loading them with a round piece of cardboard at the top makes them easier to crimp. Not that I am an expert on this sort of thing. New to the game. Suggestions?

Do you have the Lyman fifth edition? If not, you might want to as they cover slugs in great detail. An overshot card (which is basically what you have done) helps with crimping if the payload is too low in the hull.

No I don’t. I used Data from the DuPont sight. I went in a hay field and tested on some clumps of hay. The rounds with lead I cast and then loaded went to point of aim at 25 feet and blew the pile all over the place. I didn’t have anything really to test past my goal of just testing function. You know, do they go bang and go where I aimed. Yes was the answer.
