I have been looking at getting a shotgun with a shorter barrel and it seems I’ve waited too late. I was going to buy a shorter barrel for my old Wingmaster but they are expensive. A local store does have the EAA pump shotguns. Does anyone have any experience with these? It would just be a bedside gun. The whole gun is cheaper than a new barrel for the 870. They have a couple of different configurations and I noticed the barrels are chromed - seems like all Turkish barrels are chromed. The guy at the shop said he thought it was the same manufacturer for CZ pump guns. Any experience or reviews are welcomed.

They said they would have some Escort 12 gauge pumps by weeks end. They are made by Hatsan. Is their quality close to the same?

Maybe you should look at a Mossberg. I had an Escort and didn't like it. It had a defect. I don't remember what.

I would love to have a Mossberg, but shelves are bare and you can’t even back order one. Right now Mossberg and Remington 870 models are selling for about twice as much as normal on gunbroker.

I purchased the Escort made by Hatsan after handling it and the EAA Churchill. No big differences, but the fit and finish were a little better and it was cheaper. The action is not nearly as smooth as my 35 year old Wingmaster, but the chamber is very smooth. It is polished chrome and the barrel is also chrome lined. Hopefully this weekend I can shoot several shells through it and test it out. Maybe if the world ever normalizes I can add a Mossberg 590 one of these days.

My experiences with Turkish shotguns has been quite positive. They lack some of the fit and finish of other makers, but have been reliable workhorses for me. I own a Stoeger M3000 and a CZ pump. Do not have experience with your particular model, but for the price and stated purpose I'd take a chance. Either that or find a used 870 bird barrel (fixed full or modified) and cut it down to 18-20" cylinder bore and add a bead or reciever sight.

The Churchill 612 is the same gun as the CZ 612. Akkar makes them for CZ. I just picked up my Churchill and haven’t yet shot it but the initial takedown, cleaning and lubrication reveals it to be good quality, solid and worth the $249 that I paid for it. I had the opportunity to pick up a couple other budget 12 gauge shotguns that were priced a little lower but the fit and finish didn’t impress me. They were also made in China which I was trying to avoid. Akkar is a Turkish firearms manufacturer and they seem to have a good reputation.

I gave up looking for a short barrel for my Maverick 88 for a reasonable price as they were close to $200 just for the barrel. I went to my local shop a week or so ago and they had a EAA 612 new for $220 + tax. I decided that it would be my short barrel shotgun, so glad I bought it as its smooth and accurate. I will be using it this deer season as it will put slugs within a few inches out to 75 yards which is my farthest distance in my yard.

Hit the gunshops. A barrel for an 870 should be under $150. I've bought a half dozen at $125 or under. Hacksaw blade, $1.50.

This is an update from my post of 10/14 (post #11). I have about a hundred rounds through my Churchill 612 now and I can truly say that I'm very happy with it. The action is smoother than some higher priced pump shotguns that I've shot and the fit and finish remains excellent, just like the day I bought it. One thing that I really like is the texture of the stock forend which isn't slippery and doesn't allow my hand to slide off even when rapid firing. A couple of the budget priced Chinese shotguns are slick enough that my hand slips off even under slow fire and deliberate firing. Part of that is probably the smooth action of the Churchill compared to those others.

I'm wanting to change out the stock and possibly the forend to Magpul but I can't find definitively anywhere that it will accept Remington 870 furniture. I believe it does but I'm not positive. If anybody knows for sure, please let me know. I'd appreciate it.

I just bought one my self would love to know if the 870 furniture fits the Churchill. I will let you know if I figure anything out, but so far a great shotgun for the money.

I have the Churchill 620 and also curious about furniture, particularly the forend.

I have a Churchill.. it's a really nice gun to hold the action is pretty tight the forearm has a nice ergonomical feel to it. However it's a really light gun and doesn't have much of a recoil pad so its gonna kick you around a little bit.
All & all it's not a bad choice for a home defense shotgun and that's pretty much as far as it will go with me. Cheers.

"One thing that I really like is the texture of the stock forend which isn't slippery and doesn't allow my hand to slide off even when rapid firing. " <-- This is probably the one thing that drew me into buying one.. I can honestly say I like the forend way better than the one on my Maverick 88
