I see a Dillon 450 on eBay that is described as being upgraded to a 550B. I’m wanting to graduate from Lee to Dillon and would appreciate opinions from the Dillon experts. I reload a variety of rifle and pistol ammo but immediately will be making 9mm plinking ammo.

Depends on the asking price. If it’s less than 60% of a new 550. If it has several tool heads, powder measures and caliber conversion shell plates so much the better price that in also. Price is everything. The new asking price for a 550 is complete for one cartridge, does this do better.
Dillons no BS lifetime guarantee is good regardless of owners, or so I believe.

Can't really speak to whether or not this particular deal is a good idea, but I will say that I really like my 550B and have loaded a lot of ammo on it. It isn't perfect and there's a few frustrations I had to resolve here and there, but overall I have had good luck with it.

Personally I'd buy new.

Don’t know what the asking price is or any additions it comes with or what is involved in the upgrade. But I just bought a 550c recently to load .223 in moderate volume and love it. Have an old square deal b I load 45acp and 9mm with that was given to me used. And it WAS USED. Dillons lifetime no BS warranty is no BS!!! I would get the 550c and set it up with what you want. Only thing I don’t like about mine is it spits spent primers out on the floor a lot. But you can YouTube fixes for that. Have added an led light in the middle of the tool head that is after market. Bought an extra tool head also for whenever I want to load something besides .223.
The new 550c is designed so you can lubricate the wear points without disassembling the press.

600 bucks and no dies. I have a 4 die Lee set. Sounds like a new 550C would be a better choice. Thanks guys!!!

I would get the 550c. Your choice tho. Any 7/8-14 threaded dies will work in it.

Just an FYI. If your going to be loading high volume 9mm you may take a look at the 750. But by the time you do all the add on stuff you can drop $1200 in it. And caliber change overs are more expensive. Do your research. I personally don’t load thousands at one time. Just a few hundred ish. I like the versatility of the 550 and it fits my needs well.
YMMV

A new 550 is $457. At $600 that one on eBay better come with a LOT of extras.

How much 9mm do you plan on shooting? As stated the 750 might be the better press for ya. https://www.dillonprecision.com/xl-750-reloader-package-9mm_8_134_26660.html

There's the complete package from Dillon. Throw in mounting bolts and a outlet and you're set as far as hardware goes.

From what I am seeing here, it is not a good deal.

I bought a 550 a few years ago and like it.

I picked up a gently used 450 last year for $125.00 that was all setup for 38spl.
I LOVE that 450 for what it is.
I have actually rounded up a couple extra Powder Throwers.
The old manual throwers can be mounted on anything and come in very handy.
