A while back, several friends and I were discussing how to best deal with a shotgun or rifle (AR) that’s been shot hard and put away dirty too many times and is now a filthy carbon crusted mess.
One guy said he uses cheap store brand baby wipes to get most of the crud and grit off. I thought that was kinda nuts, but the next time I cleaned my CZ 712 shotgun, I gave them a try. I gotta say, I’m impressed.
I bought the local store brand unscented baby wipes:

and they really did a great job wiping the built up funk off the gun. They are now a staple in my garage and for dirty jobs like AR internals, grimy dirty tools, and other stuff that’s just filthy, they are a great first step.
I do finish up with a wipe down with some type of CLP like Lucas, Slip2000, or Ballistol, but as a first step digging into a dirty job, these things work great!
