I was going through items that where taken from Grandfather’s house before it was torn down and I came across this case. I said that looks like a takedown gun case, and my father says yes that’s for the Marlin 39, that I was given to me by my Grandfather. Doesn’t look to bad of shape outsideand it is clean inside. I thought it’s pretty neat addition to that gun. My Grandpa bought that gun new in 1920 - 21 from what I was told. I have never seen an original one before.

I have one of these. I didn’t know it was for a Model 39 though, I was assuming a side by side shotgun. Mine has a couple of the straps broken or damaged enough I wouldn’t actually want to carry the case in the field, so I gave it to my wife with the hope that one day she can sew me a modern copy.

Nice find and a beautiful 39, love that octagon barrel. That’s an heirloom gun for sure.

I have a few 39s. Ive never seen one either. Cant say that I've ever even seen a box from an old one
I got my 1957 made 39 in like new condition during the Obama ammo shortage of 2013ish . gave a guy 500 rds of cci minimags and $200 (if I remember right) , that's an awesome deal that i'd take again in a heartbeat. Love that rifle.

Around 400 is the least I have in one. Well, one was a gift but 700 dollars was paid for it. All mine are in next to perfect condition. No boxes or anything though. Its funny because the bl-22 and winchesters I see always have the box and such. But never the 39s nor Ithaca.

My 39a was rode hard and put away wet, but shoots excellently. Like the others, I've never seen a box for one; my theory is that the 39's were marketed more as "using" guns vs. the collector-oriented BL-22's and 9422's. Much like 10/22's and 572 Fieldmasters from the same era. One rarely sees original boxes/paperwork for those. The OP's is the first actual case I've ever seen for a 39, but after employing some Google-Fu I see they're uncommon but available. Too bad someone doesn't repro these, they could make a mint!

Ruger has got probably 2-3 years worth of 39a orders waiting out there, maybe more.

All they have to do now is make them.

My Marlin 39 TDS came with a carry case. The case is in much worse shape than the rifle though. And it’s just a cheap nylon, zippered case with a Marlin logo on it.
