So tomorrow I'm off to seek the elusive Blacktail Deer, and this year the Abilene .44 Magnum is going to be my primary. That being the case I cobbled together a new chest rig for it; more comfortable and better for scrambling through the brush than a belt holster for a gun this size.
Also decided it was about time to retire the old Schrade I inherited from my uncle and make my own knife. I mean, making knives is my day job, so eventually I was going to need to do one for myself, right? I kept putting it off, but I was pawing through the big toolbox looking for a wood chisel and ran across something else I inherited from my uncle- an ancient Green River skinning knife, it's blade black and pitted and the scales loose. It occurred to me it wouldn'[t take much to get it back into shape... then it occurred top me it wouldn't take much more to simply copy it.
I grabbed a scrap of O-1 tool steel and traced the old knife onto it, snagged some antler and some nickel-silver pin stock and went to work. Came out good- hopefully I'll be able to put it to work tomorrow!
So, I'll be up at OMG-thirty tomorrow morning and heading to the Happy Hunting Grounds looking to put the new gear to work... and God willing bring home a good supply of venison!
