OK I know the differences in design, but are there any practical advantages between a load bearing vest, a chest rig and thigh rig magazine pouches; is any one easier to use than the other? It must work with my Camelbak pack.
I'm not military or LE, just a guy who likes shooting and might need a buttload of mags on me for a match, class, or whatever.

Or is keeping 6+ mags on me impractical and I should just get a Kydex belt rig from Blade-Tech and put 4 mags on my scrawny 28" waist?

Skunk, just an excuse to try them all. "Gee, for the sake of science, I'll just buy them all."

Some guys dig the vests. O.K. For carbine class, I use a chest pouch.

For pistol I carry 2 extras [like I wear on the tough, gritty streets:rolleyes:] on my belt and put two extra in my left pocket, loose ammo in my right pocket.

For shotgun, I use a gas mask bag to load the sidesaddle.

I go light and prefer simple, like me. You'll get it sorted out. Squaring your gear is half the battle and most of the pain.:D

Use a thigh rig. Try to get to mags strapped to your chest (on a chest rig or vest) while you are prone.

I have a 28" waist as well ... it just means you have less belt space to attach your sidearm holster, rifle mag pouch, pistol mag pouch, OC, baton, knife, etc.

A simple three cell mag pouch works decent on the leg. Frees up your belt, balances out the handgun. Keep it in arm's reach so all you have to do is drop the arm down, extract the mag and insert. A little easier than grabbing something off the chest, like someone said, if you are prone.

Skunk, Justin and fed are right. There are pluses and minuses to all systems, darn that double-edged sword called Life anywho. That's why you have to break out the white lab coat and experiment yourself.

For me, my bug and mags balance my main pistola which is nice and tight against my bod. Have had thigh mags snag (but what can't) and wobble away. Like the chest pouch for aerodynamics and a place to put tac loads. I make no claim as to what system possesses the most tacticality.:D
