Hey folks,

Have used, hunted with, the economical Bushnell TRS-25 on my 303 Brit, 7.5 Swiss and 12 gauge turkey gun without issue. Figured I'd try one on my 4" 629. Well, worked well with midrange loads, but I managed to shoot it apart while sighting it I with some deer loads. Any recommendations for a red dot optic that can reliably withstand a diet of full house mag loads?

Thanks in advance!

Ultra Dots have been playing well with Magnum revolvers, for a while. Based on these reports, I recently bought one, through evil-bay, but do not yet have a suitable mount, so cannot provide a user report.

Another vote for the Ultra Dot, or if you want smaller go Trijicon or one of the other top tier makers. I'm done with "good enough" dots as they have not been good enough in my world. Found the "bargains" eat batteries, don't hold zero, or just fail entirely.

Yes, Trijicon costs a bit more but when you think about the ammo and time you burn to sight in a cheap one which you have to replace that $100 increase doesn't look bad to me at all. Can't get more time back and I don't to pay for frustration.

Burris Fast Fire III with silver mount on a S&W N frame. The Burris sight has all the best features. Easy to replace battery, rugged and shock tough, etc.

I needed more elevation than the stock sight allows and this has proven to be an ideal replacement, going on 3 years now.

Thanks for the suggestions folk. Much appreciated. I have been really happy with the TRS-25s I've had on my hunting rifles and turkey gun. No complaints. That said, I knew I'd be a stretch to survive the 629 given the fact the recoil is a bit ""snappier" than that of the long guns. Definitely going to invest in a more robust red dot this time. I definitely like to hear any real first hand experiences folks here at THR have had before popping for a new one.

Be well

UltraDot 25 on mine. Going on 3 years and no problems. Have an UltraDot 30 on 2 of my BFR's and no problems either. They are my go to reddots. Surprisingly I have a cheap Simmons scope on my Super Redhawk 44 mag, and it has held up nicely, and keeps zeroed, and has taken alot of abuse.

Hard to beat the old tasco pro-point reddot scopes. Have had 1 on a 629 for +/- 20 years now shooting countless 1000's of rounds that were anywhere from mild to wild.

You have a great setup! Same as mine in post #5 :)

So I do! If I remember, when I was in the market it was the lowest possible mounting option avaliable. It's for sure much lower and closer to the bore than mounting a rail and adaptor to the FastFire.

Agree. I found Raptor on E bay. How about you?
