Just given a free box of 100 Speer - 225 Grain- Jacketed Magnum Hollow Point bullets by a friend who doesn't know why his brother (recently passed) intended to use them for.

I reload 45 ACP not 45 LC & I'm not sure these are suitable for 45 ACP.

The label doesn't specify bullet diameter & the term "Jacketed Magnum" makes me wonder these bullets are safe for 45 ACP (Colt 1911)

If anyone knows I will appreciate information.

Does the bullet have a cannelure for crimping? Do you have calipers to measure diameter? Is there a product number on the box. I did a quick search and couldn’t find anything with that description, but I only looked for a minute.

They are commonly used in 450 bushmaster rounds for deer hunting.

A lot of us that hand-load 450 BM for the Michigan "shot gun only" zone use them. As someone else said they are designed to handle the higher velocities of the 450 bushmaster round and not fragment like a a "regular" .45 ACP hollow point would at those speeds.

The bullet has a cannelure
Bullet diameter is 0.451
Product no: (is a little blotted) Best I can make out is: 121Z74

I thought they might make nice SD loads for my 1911.

A 0.452” bullet may or may not work depending on your guns chamber. Most likely they will chamber and fire fine.

For example, 0.452” bullets work fine in my Rock Island and Tanfoglio 45’s, but will not chamber in my Kimber 45 ACP.

I just looked at the Speer website and couldn't find a 225 gr., .451" bullet of any design. Post a pic?

Different guns do have different requirements. .452 bullets will chamber in MY Kimber 45acp, but I have to crimp all my 45 reloads to .468 - .4685 to chamber reliably. At .469 they may chamber or may not, but they won't twist/rotate.

See if you can get more of the same bullets if you want to use them for SD loads, or just load and plink. Or you could try to trade them for something else you may need.

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I may try 0.452” again in my Kimber one day. But right now I’m up to the gills in 45 ACP ammo that will last a long time because I’m not competing anymore, just normal shooting and practice now.
