I see a lot of reports on the Taurus G3c ("c" for compact) but very little about the larger Taurus G3.

I'm looking for opinions on the G3 because I'm thinking of buying one.

Also, if I do buy one, I'd like to put a laser on it but I don't want to spend more than $100 for the laser. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

I recommend the CRIMSONTRACE laser. I purchased one (CRM201) a year or two ago and it's be flawless. I have never had to readjust it once it was dialed in. I owned the Taurus G2C, got rid of it after 3 months. I've read mixed reports of the G3. Keep in mind that you are buying from a gun company that has the absolutely worst customer service available.

triple,

From everything I read and also hear at the range, Taurus firearms have GREATLY improved over the last few years and so has their customer service.

Their customer service may have improved because they're not as busy as in the past because they're manufacturing better firearms and getting far fewer returns.

Think about it.

Oh yeah, triple, please tell me where I can find a Crimson Trace laser for the G3 for $100 or less. I've searched and can't find one.

For what it's worth, I have always had great customer service from Taurus. As far as the G3 goes, I have one and it's a solid shooter, haven't had one issue. I also have the G2C and haven't had an issue with that either. Is this going to be your EDC or a night stand/truck/backup pistol? IMO, I don't like having gadgets on my EDC, just something that will get in the way or make it harder to draw if needed. If not your EDC, then I think a light or laser would be fine, but don't know of any decent ones less than $100, other than the Chinesium on Amazon, some of those have had some good hands on reviews.

sig,

Please private message me where I can find any RECENT horror stories about Taurus customer service.

Years ago, yes, but I see nothing from the past few years.

Pay your money and take a gamble. Will it work 100% probably will. If and when it craps out. Well have something in reserve. The few tarui ive owned were great. Not a single problem. Would I buy another? Yep when this junk calms down Ill pick up a G2.

Some people love to knock Taurus. It's almost like a religion!

If their firearms and customer service were as bad as portrayed, they would have been out of business long ago.

Look, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Ford and Chevy turn out the occassional clunker. It happens.

And I think a lot of "Taurus knockers" make up their stories. Why, I don't know. It's like a fad or something.

I'll let you guys know what I think of the G3 after I have 1,000 rounds threw it.

You asked for recent 'horror stories' about Taurus; I provided them.

Not sure if that makes me a 'Taurus knocker' you were referring to, but I now know not to respond further.

Larry

DT,

That's right. You provided STORIES. Whether they are true or not is questionable.

If Taurus is as bad as the "Taurus Knockers" club portrays, how do they remain in business?

If there's one group whose members talk to each other, it's gun owners.

Taurus sells plenty of firearms.

Go to the Taurus firearms forum. They're a pretty happy group.

Go read the reviews from G3 buyers at Bud's Gun Shop, another happy group.

Larry said: "You sound settled in your decision and defensive of your choice."

If it's good enough for Hickok45, it's good enough for me.

Here you go. Long thread, with pictures, though but pretty amazing with the crap this guy put up with Taurus "customer service" . They returned his G2C after a very long wait and it still did not work right. They finally agreed to replace it with a NEW G3 and that broke on the first magazine he shot through it. There is a thread on this forum if you search with problems with the TX22 barrel and slide problems and more horror stories including long waits about customer service again.

Sig,

Did you watch the Hickok45 video on the G3? He liked it a lot and the guy's not a shill for Taurus or any other firearms manufacturer.

If a firearm sucks, he says so.

And yes, he seemed hesitant to compliment the pistol because it's a Taurus. But he changes his tune on that pretty quick.

I also am on TAURUSARMS forum. If you can't find horrible customer service posts on that website then your blind. I purchased my 1st two Taurus firearms a TX22 and a G2C. The TX22's slide cracked after 4-5 thousand rds fired It was 2months old. Send it back and Taurus had it 12 weeks, which is the normal turn around time for Taurus. They replaced the slide but didn't solve the problem that caused the slide to crack in the 1st place. Traded it as soon as I got it back. The G2C had 3000 rds through it and developed spider cracks in the under side of the slide. My dealer took it back in trade. That was my first and last Taurus experience. Hickok45 puts no more than 1000 rds through the guns he tests, usually less than that. I would like to see him test a Taurus for 5000 + rds and then post about it.

triplebike,

(yawn) We started out talking about the Taurus G3 pistol.

Then some Taurus knocker hijacked this thread and made it about Taurus customer service.

Look, from everything I read, it's a good pistol.

GO START YOUR OWN THREAD IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT TAURUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

And please, please, please read up on when to begin and end paragraphs.

Your one long paragraph posts are a real chore to read.

Thank you.

Did anyone actually read any of the customer service complaints?
"My Model 66 revolver developed a crack in the forcing cone after about 10 years of use"
Many of the complaints were about small parts, or having to wait on the phone to talk to someone. I'm not seeing anything different about this company's customer service than I've seen about any of the other major manufacturers. Noting that Taurus produces a huge amount of firearms, the number of complaints actually seems pretty minimal in comparison.

It really seems as though some companies (Colt, Kimber, Remington, Taurus) are magnets for complaints, while others (Ruger, for example) get a free pass ... just sayin' ...

Funny thing is, a lot of the folks I work with don't have a ton of discretionary income to work with, so I've got a lot of fellow employees who've picked up the Taurus G3s, and I have heard nothing negative about these pistols yet....

By the way the CRIMSON TRACE CRM 201 is $111 on Amazon. Free shipping. Well worth the money! By the way you certainty have a big chip on your shoulder, why so angry? The Taurus your looking to buy is not your only firearm so you won't have to worry if it fails and be without a defense weapon for 12-15 weeks.

1. $111 is NOT under $100, it's 11% more.

Not only have you hijacked this thread, you've changed how much I said I wanted to pay for a laser.

Why not make it $115 or $125? Heck, how about $150 or $200?

2. If I have a chip on my shoulder, it's because you hijacked this thread.

3. If you want to discuss Taurus Customer Service, start your own thread. I wanted to discuss the Taurus G3 pistol, NOT Taurus Customer Service.

Get it???

Well your certainty are a miserable person aren't you? You ought to lighten up. But I guess anyone that gets bent out of shape over $11.00 has definitely got a problem. Feel sorry for you, really do. Try to wake up tomorrow and have a nicer day. See ya.

^ actually a fair point (responding to post # 23)

Seems every thread mentioning "Taurus" turns into a discussion about its customer service, rather than its products -- most of which are serving its actual customers quite well.

Not sure why some folks are so consistently compelled to rise up and bash certain brands, particularly when they cannot document anything other than

So he got a new slide -- after 4 to 5000 rounds fired -- from the company, but immediately traded the pistol off ... An alleged crack in the slide of another pistol after 3K rounds, but he traded that one off too ... All righty then ... Well, at least this guy claims personal experience (usually it's just a brother, cousin, uncle or buddy when they have a problem with a specific company's guns).
