Late to the party......Glock 19

Wait till you try a Glock 48 with a Shield Arms 15 round mag. Like a slim Glock 19, the perfect carry gun I’ve been waiting for. But yes to your post the Glock 19 is an excellent carry gun minus the finger grips.

The Glock 19 is my personal favorite in the Glock family of weapons.

My 19 is well suited for fun on the range, night stand use, or concealed carry in an aiwb holster. It’s truly a “Goldilocks” gun. Just right.

Call me crazy, but a close second is the Glock 26. With a 12 round mag it carries like a bobtailed 19. Accepts 10 all the way up to the 33 round mags. Mine gets used almost as much as the 19 and I shoot it surprisingly well.

IMHO, my Glocks never fit my hand as well as some of my other guns, the shape of the backstraps, including the accessory beavertail backstraps, could definitely use some improvements for me, and the grip angle is not what I consider ideal. The trigger guards could be thinner and could definitely use some knuckle undercutting.

But you can’t beat the reliability and everybody makes holsters and accessories for them. So I practice with them and, when I do my part, I like to think I can shoot fairly well with guns I practice with. So I use the ones I have and I have no plans to part ways with them. But I’m not real sure about current models that I would like to have or plan on acquiring.

The 19 is the new Browning Hi Power. It's about to be replaced by the 48 when they get the 15 round mags in larger circulation. But, I really like the the classic look, feel, and balance of attributes of the 19. It's truly well designed.

Everyone's hands are different, what fits one person will not fit the next person. Most gun manufacturers and grip manufacturers make frames/grips with finger grooves to fit what they think is the average hand. If you have small hands (like me) or larger hands, you might find that finger grooves don't fit you well.

No right or wrong answer or preference, go with what is comfortable for you.

Maybe why Glock still makes Gen 4(finger grooves) and Gen 5(none)..personally, I LIKE finger grooves, my G17 Gen 4...better than my son's G17 Gen5

Again, everyones hands are different as is their personal preferences. No right or wrong answer about liking finger grooves or not liking them. Use what you like and prefer.

Gen 4, 9mm pistols now listed as "Law Enforcement Only" https://us.glock.com/en/gen4

They are essentially discontinued. The Gen 3 will continue to be available in places like California. The Gen 5 is the current standard.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I own both guns and this is really an apples & oranges comparison. But I like fruit salad, and IMHO, the Glock 19 is a better carry gun that shoots fine, the BHP is a better range gun that I’m not concerned about carrying.

I would gladly trade my Glock 19 for another decent BHP, but it isn’t likely that there are many BHP owners out there who would want to complete that transaction.

For what it's worth I strongly considered selling my MK III to fund a Shadow Systems 920 before things went crazy.

Not quite another Glock 19, but close.

I've had my BHP for almost 10 and just have never got on with the trigger, recoil, and hammer bite.

The BHP trigger with the disconnect can be an issue for some people, but the trigger can be worked. The BHP is a bit muzzle heavy and with the low-bore axis I always thought the recoil was not a problem. I’ve never had a problem with hammer bite with the BHP, but I always had problems with slide bite with my Glocks.

Recoil isn't a problem, per say, I just don't care for how it recoils compared to Sig's or Glocks or 9mm 1911s. Despite feeling very nice in the hand, I've finally decided i just don't get along with the BHP.

Took my disconnetor off as well, and the trigger is fine, I just don't like the lack of reset and, as I said, the feel of the gun under recoil. Plus the hammer and slide bite.

My first exposure to Glock pistols was a .45 caliber Glock 21 back in the early 1990’s. To me, it felt like a 2x4 in my hand and soured me on Glocks for many years.

In 2007 I was issued a G-3 Glock 19 when I left my old department for my current one. This gun I liked a lot, it fit my hands ok, shot well for me, packed a lot of rounds and was concealable under a suit jacket/sports coat for protection details. I carried that gun daily until I bought my G-4 Glock 34 as my daily carry in 2013. I used the Glock 19 for details that required suits and/or low-key looks.

When we went to G-4 Glock 19’s I bought my G-3.

That Glock 19 frame size is just about a do-anything and go-anywhere one. It’s not the best for every potential use, but it really does check an awful lot of boxes across the usefulness spectrum. Seriously, once you found the spots to alter on the frame it’s no wonder you’ve fallen for it ECVMatt!

Stay safe.

Never had much success having a comfortable grip with the finger grooves on the various Glock models. My HK VP9 is the first gun with finger grooves that fit me perfectly and I have small size hands. I also benefitted by swapping out the Medium size backstrap and side panels with the Small size versions.

I have the HK P30 which has the same modular grip system as the VP striker models. With my large hands I have the largest backstrap & side panels installed on the P30 and although it looks fugly, it fills up my shooting hand nicely, and I think that it mitigates felt recoil a little better.

I’d like to get the 2020 version of the VP that is optics ready and with the 17 rd. magazines, very soon.
