A local store had some bulk pack Federal .22LR ammo. I was able to get a few boxes of .22LR - Federal Range Pack - Qty 800 40gr 1200FPS. Can anyone comment on these rounds. The price is right - how is accuracy, etc.

Thanks,
Mike

Nice...I ended up with quite a hodge-podge of ammo. Everything from target grade to I don't know what. Just little 50 packs of whatever was on the shelves. All of a sudden there is an 800 pack from Federal. I am sure it will shoot, fine, but I was hoping I didn't impulse buy crap. Federal makes some nice rounds, just didn't know what I bought.

Been wanting to just get some CCI Mini mags and Standards, but not sure when that might happen.

Ive had poor experiences with bulk federal .22 but I’ve bought a few 50rnd boxes of it a few weeks back and now that Ive tried it I’m kicking myself for not getting the 800 pack. I was getting groups smaller than a fist at 100yds. Nothing amazing but 2-3” isn’t bad. 2 duds in the box of 50 ,they wouldn’t fire with repeated strikes . I’d say you could do worse on quality for .22.

edit: shot from a stock 10-22 with a cheap 3-9x40 on it

Not match grade, perfectly adequate for plinking/informal target shooting. Most of the Federal stuff is pretty good.

Back in the 1990s I knew folks who lived on farms who bought the 40 round boxes of Federal because it was really good ammo. For protection of livestock from predators and hunting game for food, they liked it and had a high opinion..

Me and my son, CCI MiniMags are the go to ammo for .22s. Before that were the Winchester Super X 37gr hollowpoints 1360 fps. The Winchester 40gr hollowpoints jammed a lot in my .22s.

I have a CBC 7022 rifle with four 10 rd magazines and a heavily modified-to-fit Mossberg 702 25 rd magazine that are near 100% with Federal Hi-velocity hollowpoint.

During the 2016 ammo drought Federal Auto Match turned out to be (a) available and (b) really good in most of my and my family's .22 rifles and pistols.

Federal Cartridge Co. has consistently been good at keeping up a good balance of price and reliability (in my experience).
