Local gun stores and walmart have CCI stingers 22lr anywhere from $7-9 for 50 rounds. Bulk packs are like $25-$30 How can they sell bulk so cheap? is it corrosive ammo???? is it lead ammo?? I do not want to shoot lead ammo. I rather shoot copper and pay full price.
:uhoh:

$25-$30 cheap?????
What brand are they. Remington 550 packs are $14.99 here in central Arkansas. I know some people have a problem with Remington rimfire, but even if you don't like Remington, you can get Winchester 333 packs for $9.99. I'd like to know what brand is costing $30.

are you serious? 3 years ago those bulk packs were $9-11. I can't even bring myself to pay $25 for one

i mostly shoot the 'copper wash' stuff. nothing wrong with lead 22lr.

CCI stingers are much better ammo, but they're much hotter usually too

opps sorry, I believe there $18-25 sorry

I got quite a few CCI stingers but they are so much to shoot. what about that copper washed stuff, no lead will come off when it comes out the barrel??? I do not like lead

What is the issue with lead seriously? Your not going to get poisoning.....unless your shooting in a room with no circulation, and even then its highly unlikely. It cleans easier than copper wash. Seriously whats the issue?:confused:

The Walmart here has the Federal 550 bulk packs for about $15. It seems like most of the people around here have the best luck with the federal bulk packs. Don't even bother with the Remington.

well if you want 100% copper in .22lr your going to be spending some money and hard pressed to find it. Just shoot Federal bulk and clean your gun. Cleaning is half the fun. I think so anyway. Also the federal is still a lead base alloy, I believe but it does fine in all my .22lr aside from my wife's P22.

You really do not need to clean your .22 like you clean your other guns. You will need to clean the action out every now and then to keep the gun cycling reliably, since .22LR dumps a lot of crud into the receiver, but you should be able to go through an entire bulk pack (500+ rounds) before you start seeing any difference whatsoever in accuracy, if there is one at all.

I routinely put 2-3k rounds through my Savage 64 between barrel patches (and that's "just 'cause," not because it really needs a barrel cleaning). Cuts daisies in half at 75 yards just fine...

I haven't had any issues with Remington Golden Bullets. They do have a fair number of primer duds - I generally get 20 or so per box - but other than that I can't say anything bad about 'em. If you'd prefer Federal then get Federal, but like promo shotgun shells, .22LR bulk packs are pretty much all the same.

And by the way, your patches aren't getting stuck because your barrel's dirty, they're getting stuck because you're trying to shove a patch that's way too large down the bore. Have you even looked to see how shallow rifling on a .22 is? There isn't exactly much for a patch to get hung up on, it's just a very small diameter tube.

@ninja

Yes I know how small it is, I make small patchs and sometimes they do not go down. I use very little patchs and takes forever to wipe the bore down.

I don't care what anyone says, I love the Remington Golden Bullet 550 pack I get at Walmart. It's about the only ammo I can reliably get at Walmart... well, 12 gauge bird shot too.

You have to pay attention to how they go in - trust me, I wedge plenty of patches in my .22s myself. I find that the best way is to simply roll a "cigarette" out of a small piece of patch cloth, leaving it small enough in diameter to start it down the barrel by hand - the pressure from the cleaning rod will "mushroom" it out against the barrel and give you a patch that's tight enough to clean, but not so tight it gets stuck. Draping a patch over the end of the rod a la centerfire rifles usually doesn't work because there's just not enough clearance between the rod and the barrel.

You're obviously new to .22LR - take it easy, I'm just trying to help out. :)

Don't worry about shooting lead 22s.

And you really don't need to clean the barrel on a 22 that often. I might do it once a year, and I usually go through at least a few thousand rounds a year per gun.

Most 22 rounds have a wax coating on them that acts as a protectant and lube, it reduces lead exposure and fouling in the barrel.

Buy as much as you can for less that 20 bucks a brick and you will be good to go.

they sell them cheap because of economies of scale. making 1 wdiget is expensive. making 80 million widgets is much cheaper. there is nothing wrong with them. I wouldn't use them for competition, but for cans and squirrels they are great. they go bang when you pull the trigger (unless you are shooting remington golden bullets, then you have a 90% chance of bang) and run within about 75 fps of each other according my chronograph. I THINK i recall it being about 1050 fps +/- 50.

the federals are the best. my guns (ruger mk2 and ruger 10/22) eat them all day long without hitch. winchester super X jammed occasionally in the mark 2, the old remington thunderbolts ran fine, and the remington golden bullets are a plague. 1 out of 10 will either be a dud that might fire if you try it again, or be oversized and jam. If you can find them, buy federal. if not, buy what you can find, but expect a certain amount of frustration and know how to clear a jam safely.

lead bullets are fine. even the bullets that are copper plated are lead underneath, and the plating is not a jacket like on a 9mm. it's much much thinner.

head the general wisdom here, you will do more damage to your barrel by cleaning aggressively than you will be shooting it dirty.

winchester super X

Is the dirtiest, most inconsistent stuff I've shot so far. I don't know what's up with Winchester and budget ammo, but man, that stuff gums up my guns five times as fast as everything else, and it's a toss-up as to whether you get a "pop" or a "BANG" when you touch 'em off...

All my guns hate winchester golden ammo but the new 333 and 555 packs are great so far plus you get an extra 5 rounds for the same price . I get federal 550 when I can but noticed my local walmarts usually have the 333/555 packs.

I prefer Fed. 550 and Winchester 555/333 for plinking, besides I hate CCI, who will not take responsibility for their poor QC (Kaboom via case head seperation) in .17HM2 :cuss:.

the only decent bulk pacs are federal and winchester. cci is decent but very dirty, and remmy is, well.... typical dirty, crappy, poorly made, stinky, made by Ray Charles- remmy.
So try out your various federal and winny bulk pacs, find one you like, and stick with that.

Also , that is wheh heh hayyy to expensive for bulk ammo; I would not pay over 15 bucks for them , period.
