I'm so excited about CZ acquiring Colt. My two favorite carry guns are the Cobra and the RAMI (both in my profile pic). CZ did amazing things for Dan Wesson and now Colt is finally gonna be owned by someone other than an investment firm. This is gonna be great. Turnaround times for an RMA won't take ten weeks anymore.

I like CZ - quality stuff.

But the old "made in America" Colts and Winchesters, even though current Japanese Wins 94's are of excellent quality, still hold the nostalgia, quality, and the feel of "Americana" that I want.

Buying a CZ-Colt would be buying a CZ in a Colt design - good enough, but indifferent to me.

I think CZ will be good for Colt, it's just a shame that investment interests have pretty much made it impossible for American owned companies to produce quality profitable products. Welcome to the land of the greedy.

I don't own a Colt revolver, but I'd like to. Part of it is the unique place in American history. Do I care who owns the company? Setting aside ownership by unfriendly people or countries, which is certainly not the case with CZ, so long as they are financially strong, it's fine. Colt employees making Colts using Colt machinery here in America. I'll be happy to buy a new one when things align for me.

CZ did well with their DW 1911s. More than pleased with mine. A lot of value and quality for the money at the time I bought it. On the other hand they just discontinued the DW revolver. As for Colts resurgence.... I’m not so sure it’s imminent or inevitable. We’re (revolver aficionados) a finicky lot once you go over that $1,000-$1,500 mark.

I do think that CZ's acquisition of Colt is a positive step. But it will take more than a solvent company producing the same old stuff to excite me.
Colt double action revolvers have always lacked the single stage nature of S&W. Even the Python's reputation of being so accurate and exquisite came from single action bullseye shooting, a delightful finish and lots of advertising. It has the same old action, based on changing mechanical advantage as always. The 'working man's' DA revolvers had the sole redeeming value of being believed to be stronger. To be fair, the New Service would allow one to load up .38 Special to a high level, but no more than an "N" frame S&W.
The single actions have been thought of highly - based on history of the model P and movies. I'm not so sure about the .22 revolvers. I must say Ruger makes a much better using single action. In any caliber. For the nostalgia faction and Cowboy shooting the replicas are far better.

The one bright spot is the Government Model. However, I'm pretty calm over all the 'safety improvements'. The firing pin lock is superfluous; just something else to go wrong. The only improvement the Government Model ever needed was better sights and proper fitting to insure defensive rounds fed and chambered properly. All the other modifications are for specialized competition use; not self defense.

So I am elated on the part of the company and heritage, but lukewarm at best on the subject of products. Over all, I am glad. But as much as I enjoy CZ rifles, I likely will not buy much of the 'old Colt' products.

CZ makes nice, solid, and well-engineered stuff from what I have observed.
If their involvement meaningfully returns Colt to the marketplace, that is good news.

Nope - not at all excited. CZ notwithstanding, almost my entire life (over 60 now) has been a rollercoaster of anticipation and disappointment with the next-great-step for Colt.

Probably possible that CZ suffers (even if barely perceptible) for the intake of whatever corporate cancer is congenital to Colt's.

Being an unrepentant Moto Guzzi fan - owning 5 of them - I feel OK sharing a very similar attitude which has become a mantra-truism among the dyed in the wool Guzzi fans:

"Moto Guzzi; Going out of business since 1921!"

Todd.

The Colt name is lost on me. Sam Colt was a failed businessman and he did little in the form of actual invention. He was an improver and he did some good things with early revolvers so the Sam Colt name means little to me. SAA to me is no spectacular gun for Colt but it does show the best of old and new technology for the time period in the Remington revolver frame type and the S&W used Rollin White patent cartridge gun design. Moving on to the early 20th century the Colt guns were on par with S&W or any other maker. The 1911 was a great gun which can’t be denied, but that was 110 years ago. AMC had a great car much more recently than Colt had a great gun...that’s saying something. More modern times the Trooper and the snake guns were coming to market at premium. Good guns, but they were known to be a bit fragile. Collectability far exceeds shootability. S&W was more durable and nipping at Colts heels for accuracy. Good guns but not as spectacular as they are made out to be. AR15/m16 was not a Colt design. It was picked up by Colt and they got contracts on it so good for them.

To the point of all this, Colt has a great brand name due to being recognized but the product line is all basically about 110 years old in semiautos. I’m not sure when the D frame guns came out but it was a good ways back. I just don’t see the reason to be in a fuss. CZ is a good company so I expect that they will do good things with Colt, but I scratch my head at what they will do. Too much competition in 1911s, too small of market share in overpriced revolvers, laughable amount of competition in the AR game that are better than Colt now. I just hope that CZ gets the prancing pony that they think that they are getting instead of the jumping jackass that I see.

I’m not a CZ fan or a Colt fan. I do have respect for CZ though so I see it as an improvement for Colt.

I’m more excited for the “inevitable” resurgence of Marlin under the ownership of Ruger.

Not sure about inevitable resurgence, but hoping that it goes well. I would think the corporate culture shock would require a lot of adjustment, and of course these are interesting times for the shooting sports in any event. Many challenges, but many opportunities with luck and good management.

Nice handle, I like the confidence.

Which cobra? The original aluminum frame cobra or the new run? I like Colt firearms, I've had quite a few over the years, I like their older guns. Woodsman, DS, Cobra, Frontier Scout, 1903, etc.. when I was into 1911's I felt $1200 could go alot further from a different manufacturer, same goes for AR15's..... nothing really excites me about post 80's Colts. But if I found a good deal on one I wouldn't stick my nose up at it.

BTW, did we get like 5k new members this past week. I don't recognize anybody lately....

Eh from me.

I'm not a Colt hater, I'm pretty ambivalent about them.

Maybe if they bring a quality that matches their price (even with the pony) I might move to moderately interested.
