I think I have shown this before
Supposedly by Dewey (of Dewey cleaning rods)

Rear site moved to toggle, barrel by Dewey, taller front sight due to higher rear sight, some jeweling and ported

Very fun to shoot and preserves my other 2 artillery models (one safe Queen and one semi-queen)

Super nice target/fun pistol, congratulations.
I can imagine an outstanding accuracy.

Yes, extractor

sight is milled into the toggle. I like it better than my originals as a range toy

the front blade is really hard to acquire in some light conditions on the originals (sharp beveled.)

Sure, the rear is not graduated out to hundreds of yards nor biased to make up for 9mm spin but it is a hoot to shoot and the toggle really keeps you on target for followup shots.

I guess these Lugers were a “dime a dozen” years ago. I’m happy Mr. Dewey experimented!

now, it may be a much more expensive proposition based on my # matched models

It certainly would have been better if the front sight had had the ramp in shadow (at a "negative" angle).
But I'm still sure it's a superb shooting pistol .

I f you feel blue because the front sight has no lovers, no worries I will dispose that horrendous pistol for free.
Enjoy your Lugers a dirty sheep doesn't ruin the herd.

Plastikosmd: it has a better sight distance than on some MP5s?

As long as it limits wear on a collector Luger, and functions well. And it looks really cool, plus it doesn't need any Super Blue liquid dabbed on.
Of course you wouldn't dab that on your true collector guns.

My "Luger" is a Ruger Mark IV short skinny barrel. :notworthy:

As the owner of four Lugers, two of which are artillery LP 08 Lugers, my eyes hurt.
But, since you are proud of it I am very happy for you. I'm sure you enjoy it. :)

Meh, got original artillery or 2 also

Top is all original and matched, bottom is matched minus 1 small part and leather etc. I shoot the bottom one.
Still more fun to shoot the Dewey tho!

I haven’t shot this original of a different style, as I don’t have ammo that I would trust with a it.

I actually kind of like the looks of it! If I came across it in a gun shop or at a gun show and the price was right, I would consider getting it. At the very least it's a bit of an attention-getter and would probably be a fun range toy!

From another forum:
(2152hq)
“John Dewey made up those custom Lugers in the 60's. He used Micro brand rear sights generally on those conversions.
The polish was rather soft wheel rounded on most as compared to the sharp factory style polishing.
A shop I did work for in the early to late 70's had a J.Dewey Luger on display. Same configuration as this but it had been engraved quite heavily and gold inlayed by Bill Mains when he had been working for G&R Tackle in Buffalo NY.
Bill likely did the gun in the late 60's.”

Numerich used to offer Luger barrels of various configuration. As a kid I lusted after a Luger with one of their 2 inch barrels. I believe they also sold a heavy four inch and a six inch as well, in the 1960's.

No explaining what you thought you wanted as a kid!

Still looks better than my "Luger"! I dig it.

Today sporterizing a luger seems a concept for the rich. John Martz (?) luger adaptations run in the thousands now that he has passed. The days of $400 lugers is gone and even the roughest specimen can fetch upwards of $1K+. I chose to build an faux artillery luger and spent $115 just on a repop rear sight. I'll bet i could disassemble it and just the mismatched parts would top 2K.

Agree, seems crazy these days

I remember when I was 7-8 in the early 80’s. The “German Luger “ was my “favorite” pistol. I don’t even know where I got the idea. We didn’t own guns (friends did) but nothing so exotic.

I happy and lucky
