Man ticketed after shooting self

A 27-year-old Lincoln man accidentally shot himself with a .357 caliber revolver he had in a holster attached to the waistband of his pants, Lincoln Police Officer Katherine Finnell said Thursday. Police ticketed Stephen Fitts for discharging a weapon in the city. He was treated at Bryan LGH Medical Center West for injuries caused by the bullet that went in-and-out of his left hip and into a couch. He told police he was sitting on the couch at a friends house when the trigger of the revolver caught on something, perhaps his jacket, and fired. He looked at the couch, according to police reports and saw what looked like pizza. Then reports said, he realized it was his backside “he had blown apart.â€

Well, since he got a ticket he'll probably think twice before doin' THAT again.

Now if they could figure out some way to fine you for slamming your finger in the car door..

Sounds like time for a better holster. Poor guy. Dumb guy, but even more pitiable for that. I tell you what, though: If I ever get a bullet wound, I want it to look like pizza. Nothing like a little levity in an otherwise grave situation.

I take that to mean the bullet penetrated his left buttcheek. So the fat looked like mozzarella and the blood looked like sauce. YUM. And hasn't the guy got enough problems without getting a ticket too?

"Sounds like time for a better holster."

Agreed. He needs a holster that has one of those little straps across the hammer. I *presume* he really caught the hammer on something, and not the trigger. I also presume that nobody in his right mind would holster a cocked revolver, especially when the hammer would fall on a loaded chamber.

It only went through his left hip an buttocks?

It looks like he only made a half-assed effort.

Keeping it on the High Road, remember
Rule one ...
heck, try to follow all the Firearms safety rules.

If the fat looked like mozzarella and the blood looked like sauce, what did the brains look like - one anchovy?

"... the trigger of the revolver caught on something." ?? Give me a break. That was his story to the cops. This inexperienced guy was playing with a loaded handgun and got stupid, plain and simple. And what is it with the newspaper or TV reporters? How many times do we have to read or hear about accidental shootings where "the gun just went off?" Why don't the stories ever say, "the stupid person pulled the trigger with his/her finger?"

How nice that this idiot shoots himself and you use it to bash the police. It's all about revenue? Maybe, considering these cops were diverted from other duties to respond to this ass clown self initiated emergency, you know diverted from other things TAXPAYERS want them to be doing. Also, consider that local EMTs probably also had to respond. Why should the taxpayers have to foot the bill for this tool?

But I guess you don't want to miss any and all opportunities to turn a thread into a cop bashing thread.

Sheesh some people.....act like you personally insulted them if you say something about cops. Now, it's the non-cops who take this attitude that really scare me.

Why should the taxpayers have to foot the bill for this tool?

Like he said, the guy's got enough problems already. There's no reason to be bitter about wasted tax dollars. If you really felt that way you should have truck bombed the Capitol building long ago.

"If you really felt that way you should have truck bombed the Capitol building long ago."

IMO that was really extreme, uncalled for, and WAY off The High Road.
