Armed burglar foiled by man with B.B. gun
Wednesday, Jun 20, 2007 - 11:10:42 am CDT
An armed teenager was held at B.B.-gunpoint by the man he allegedly was trying to steal from at 23rd and Dudley streets early Wednesday.

The resident of the home told police he was sleeping, when a noise startled him. He grabbed a B.B. gun in his room and went to investigate, then found a person he did not know in his hallway.

The man was able to hold the suspected burglar until police arrived at the scene, Lincoln Police Officer Katherine Finnell said.

Police arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of burglary, and said they found a loaded .22-caliber pistol in his shoe. The teenager was taken to the Youth Detention Center.

Well, as much as I don't like the media painting them as boy scouts...there is that whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing...which is kinda cool.

Did you read the comments under the article.

Yeah guys see! Real guns are never needed!!!!:neener:

Terrific, let's try it out on the police first since they have the greatest number of "unneeded" guns!

why does the news always subtly try to defend the bad guy?

"allegedly" is a word that truly annoys me.

That's just called CYA. If the paper says that he WAS trying to steal from the man, then the paper gets slapped with libel if the kid gets off as innocent. Remember, "innocent until proven guilty". The paper can't say he actually did anything illegal until a court says so.

Mindset.
Motivation
Means

Granted I was not there, still this reads to ME :

This home owner had the mindset to not be a victim, and was motivated to stay safe, and used a "means" in which to do so. In this instance a BB Gun.

It could have been a baseball bat, golf club, or a length of broomstick he has stuck in a window to keep the window from being raised, for a "means".

Folks really need to quit "fixating" on the word Gun , be they Gun Control Advocates or Gun Owners.

Guns are not majic talismans that repel Evil all by themselves.
Guns are not Evil all by themselves.

By Golly it is the Mindset of , and the Intent thereof which makes a difference, in Good or Evil.

Punk was confronted, and the homeowner did not back down, and whatever his actions, words and how his Mindset was communicated to the Punk, is what caused this situation to turn out as it did.

Lady Luck showed up as well.

My Remarks

Wow. Seriously lucky. Not smart, but certainly leading a charmed life that night.

I wonder if he will continue to believe in his luck or whether he'll wake up and realize the next bad guy may not be a clueless teenager.

He needs better security on his doors and windows.

And he needs a better gun.

Remember: "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

I did not see what type of BB Gun....<crosses fingers> ...I am hoping it was a Daisy Red Ryder :D

OK.

What is done is done and now history.

My take is,
-Some folks do not choose to change themselves until their butt won't bounce anymore.
-It takes something "evil" either to them or another to wake up!

This is your ONE free pass homeowner - don't blow it.

Others might wake up from this homeowners experience as well, it might be the "bottom" they needed to hit.

the paper gets slapped with libel if the kid gets off as innocent

Big difference between "innocent" and "Not Guilty". :uhoh:

If you don't know the difference, allow me to provide an example:

OJ was "Not Guilty". Sure as Hell wasn't "innocent".

Got it? :)
