I've learned that Mausers were made in several different countries. Will parts made in one country work on guns made in a different country? If these were made under license, did Mauser provide any control over uniformity of product, or was the licensee free to do as they like?

That's a pretty open-ended question. There are a few variants of Mausers so it really depends on which parts you are talking about. There are different calibers, large ring, small ring, and barrel lengths. The bolts are head spaced to each rifle. Small parts are interchangeable for the most part.

Most military Large Ring Mauser rifle parts are interchangeable. It really depends on model Mauser. Like the Yugo with intermediate action uses a different firing pin than a full length 98 action. You have to be more specific what parts you are talking about. I keep a large inventory of Mauser parts because I collect them.

Thanks for the help. I don't have one yet, but having owned a Sunbeam Alpine I'm all too familiar with NLA (no longer available) in the parts catalog. Can you recommend a reference book for mauser similar to what mr goforth wrote for iver johnson and harrington and richardson?
