One has been flawless in function, but the other has had two visits back to the mothership in Connecticut. I just got a call on Friday that it can't be repaired so they will replace it. Since my gun was custom made, I will hear next week what it will be replaced with.

I also have a S&W model 15-3 that I picked up a few months ago that originally came with a 2" barrel, but a previous owner put a 6" barrel from a model 14 on it. I dropped it off at the gunsmith a few days ago to have a 2" barrel re-installed on it.

The .38's are primarily for my wife and daughter, so I keep one in my bedroom. I keep a Bulldog .44 in my truck and my Glock model 48 is my primary pistol.

I have three types of self defense rounds:

110gr Hornady Critical Defense
Remington 125gr SJHP
Winchester 125gr SJHP

I will be qualifying for my LEOSA permit at the end of the month. I plan on using the Glock and S&W model 15 after I get it back from the barrel-ectomy.

I carry a snubby , although it be in .32 H&R mag, and gives me an extra round over most of the .38's. I load it with the Federal Classic 85 grain JHP Reported @ 1100 Fps with 230 FP at the muzzle. The revolver is a Titanium 732 Taurus that has been very accurate and very reliable. 32mag.JPG

View attachment 984580 My only 38 spl snub is a Ruger Speed Six NYCPD mfg date June 1988.

I saw a Speed Six exactly like this one at my LGS about 3 months ago. They had a 3 person limit in the store. Really small store. I was eyeballing the Ruger and “my gotta have it” Spidey Senses were in overdrive when I heard a guy at the door (there was a line of people outside) say to someone else.
“I hope that guy doesn’t buy that Ruger. I came back for it after getting my money together. That one is just like the one my Dad had before he died.”
Spidey senses OFF.
I hope he enjoyed his “new” oldSpeed Six. :)Very cool revolver.

Three Charter Arms Undercovers for me. The first was bought new the day I was given my badge, in 1987, for OD and BU carry. The second was my fathers, and became mine when he died in 2010. It was made the year in which I was born, in 1966. The third I picked up in a LGS maybe three or four years ago. It's in stainless, and dates from about 1985; I hadn't known they were made in SS back then.

I have a fairly-rare, three-inch Taurus 85 in stainless, from 1995. This is a very impressive little gun, especially with that barrel length.

Rounding out my snubbies is an old Rossi 68 that appears to have had half an inch or so hacked off the barrel. Found it in a pawn shop a few years back.

I have 2 S&W J frame snubbies in .38 Special: a Model 649 and a Model 638. I like to use the Model 649 in the cold weather months and typically carry the lighter weight Model 638 in the warmer weather. Have a DeSantis IWB SOF-TUCK holster for both of them and take along a couple of Bianchi Speed Strips for reloads.

Quite a few .38 snub-guns have passed through my possession, since my first, an S&W Model 60, in 1983. Presently, my only .38 J-Frame is a 642-based S&W Performance Center stamped “M460.” (That was not a typo.)

In early 2020, I found a long-term grail-quest snub-gun, a nice, well-kept 2” Model 64, and then another in December 2020. The first was a 64-3, and the second a 64-4. These are not safe queens, but carry guns, as I age-out of being the formidable 24/7 defender of law and order, and evolve into a tired, retired, stooped grandpa. My aging right thumb and wrist are now vexed by the muzzle flip of compact nines, J-Frames, and such things, and cannot always be trusted to provide a stable platform for cycling auto-loaders.

I have a 2” pre-Model 10, too. It is not too precious to carry, but I would rather not sweat all over it, in this green, humid corner of SE Texas.

I’ve only owned 5 .38 Spl. snub revolvers 4 of which I still have. My first was a S&W 640 Centennial that I bought in the early 1990’s as a duty back up. I traded this gun and a couple hundred bucks for two old Model 19 duty guns from a peer; a 4” and a 2.5”.

My current crop has a Ruger SP 101, a nickel S&W Model 49 and an Airweight 642, and finally a new model Colt Cobra. I keep the Colt loaded with Hornady Critical Defense 110 gr +P loads.

I do have a used 3” Model 36 that I paid for but is currently in the Ca regulatory penalty box before I can pick it up. It was stripped of the bluing by some prior owner, so it’ll be gone through and reblued by my gunsmith before I bring it home. :(

Stay safe.
