Great. I've only seen Dietz range riding by. Never tried it. I am a member at Buc&Does in San Antonio. Have not had a bad experience at any range except Mcqueeny Gun club. They watch shooters like a hawk. Don't allow reloads and don't allow you to pickup your brass. Is Dietz an outdoor range? I have come to notice that outdoor ranges don't leave my ears ringing after a session. Tied up this weekend but I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks again.

I had no idea there were so many from Texas on this forum. I’m right down the road from you guys. I’m in the country just south of Flatonia located about halfway between Houston and San Antonio on I-10. I shoot at a outdoor range/gun club named Appelt’s Hill Gun Club.

Only 10mm pistol I have is a 20SF ..I had a 29 but it seemed the 20 made it out of safe alot more often..

I'm in Katy. I shoot at Bayou Rifles.

Dietz is an outdoor range with lanes fro 25 meters to 200 yards. Pistol range to 20 yards. I like it because you get to set up your on targets and membership is or was under $200 per year and you shoot as long as you want and as many firearms your vehicle can carry. I go to Lonestart it is all steel targets except the personal bays. I like Lonestart because rapid firing is allowed where Dietz is not and their rifle range at Lonestar is 300 yards steel. Don't like their rifle range because you can't free hand shoot standing. I practice free hand shooting all year round for deer season. Am not familiar with Buc&Does. I hear bad things about Mcqueeny Gun club all the time.

Great. Haven't seen too many 200+ yard ranges. I bet that helps in prepping for deer season. I only have 22 rifles and with only knowing of one range with 200 yards in south san Antonio, I've yet to shoot beyond 17.

When I lived in New Mexico the club I belonged to (Del Norte Gun Club) had 700 acres of ranges, including a 1,000 yard range. I sure do miss that.

Of course we have BLM land right near me now, so I can set up a 1,000 yard target if I wanted to. I am not confident of my abilities with my 10mm Auto at 1,000 yards however.

Recoil is not my bogieman, but, the less of it the more satisfying any gun feels to me.
I used to think that, and generally agree, but if you feel no recoil, it makes you think. Did I just get a squib? I think I'm more aware of it as I reload.

Still I understand why the FBI moved away from it. I can get on target with the 9mm so much quicker due to the lighter recoil, even on the 40S&W it's quicker to get back on target. The 10mm, that takes a second to get back on a target. Don't know how much effect it would be under stress, but I suspect there would still be faster follow-ups on 9mm & 40 S&W over the 10mm.

Swampwolf, I had 1076s with the 4.25" barrels, and 1006 and 1026 5" guns. Shooting and chronographing a half dozen of these S&Ws over a period of several years, my favorites were the 5" guns. The 5" guns have a bit more slide mass, a good thing when shooting the "real" 10MM ammunition, and a bit more chronographed velocity, 40-50 FPS IIRC. I had two of the early 5" 610 revolvers too. The 5" revolvers were the most accurate 10MMs I had, and they routinely produced higher velocities than the 5" semi-autos.

My only remaining S&W 10MM is a model 1026. I've had this one for quite a few years, and it has been robust, and reliable with any and all factory and reloaded ammo I've used.
