Weather is changing, are you exercising for the season?

I did this about a year ago and have maintained it. Insane how good I feel at (next week) 40. It absolutely helps in the woods. It took two years to drop sixty pounds primarily through diet. As far as exercise I live in the mountains and when time allows I take my dogs hiking, split and haul wood, and I work on my hunting land. Sadly, time doesn’t allow often. The only reason I mentioned living in the mountains is to point out that these hikes are much more than casual strolls.

Age 40? Just a puppy...........Give it another quarter century; when the "ITIS" brothers (Arthur, Burs, Tendon) hit every joint in your body you'll understand why some of us do more target shooting than hunting any more. My knees are never chasing chukar up shale and sage slopes again like they did when I was 40.

Well...

Work out "0'dark" mornings, 6/wk.

Consisting of Two(2) hours stretching and lifting, including a 1.5-3.0 mile run.

Then hike 2-6 mi. later in the day.

Eat human food, all I want (Fat/Protein/Salt/Water), coffee, and < 50 gr. Net Carbs/day (Onion/Broccoli/Zucchini/Cabbage).

6'-1/170 lbs.

I make no change in my physical training seasonally. I am one month shy of my 79th birthday. I arise at 5:30 every morning and at 6 AM I set out on a 5 mile walk. The only exception is extreme snow or rain. I am 5’10”, 165 lbs, 33 inch waist, and I eat only one meal (a big one) a day. I like and good scotch. I have not had to see a doctor in six years, I am on no meds. I ain’t changing anything.

Yeah, I wouldn't change anything either.

Good points. I’m comparing myself to others (with whom I grew up), who are around my age. Had I not lost the weight I’d be like them... thus the comparison. I very much respect y’all who are more seasoned than I. I hope that should I be blessed with as many years as y’all, I’m still able to enjoy life.

edit to add: when comparing myself to others around my age I’m also not saying that I’m in any way superior. Everyone makes their own choices and I support their choices for their lives.

Being a volunteer firefighter, I need to stay in shape year-round. I'm in the gym 6 or 7 days a week. At 54 years old, 6' 3" tall and 185 pounds I think I'm doing OK. Don't smoke, quit dipping snuff years ago, but I do like a glass of bourbon now and again. I just might make my goal of living to 100.

Where I hunt on our property in central NY, everything is a downhill drag of less than half a mile, so I'm good as far as that goes.

I just dropped 20bs since hunting season, and have vastly improved bloodwork to boot! Walk about 3 miles with the mutt at sunup daily, will be focusing on more core work as the spring progresses, and doing some more woods hiking/scouting. Back down to 190lbs at 6' and feeling great.

The wife and I and the dogs did a nice hike the other day. Took a dirt bike trail through the mountain. New trail to me. We plan on doing it tomorrow again. I downloaded a walking distance app. Im curious how much ground we covered.
