41 Mag - talking myself out of it

These threads make me laugh. The it's pointless because it's smaller than to the it's pretty much as good as crowds flock to them.

Have you thought about a 10mm revolver? They're cool, unique, and not impossible to feed right now.
LOL!!! Jynx! Great minds, right? ;)

I also like the .41 for the “oddball” factor, that’s the precise reason I scored my 7.5” Redhawk .41 for 350 bucks a couple of years ago... no one knew what it was so it sat unwanted for months until I liberated it for half the asking price on the tag!

I added a 6.5” Blackhawk a few months back.

Loaded up; as much oomph as I can tolerate and flatter shooting than my 6.5” 629 .44 at distance.

Loaded down; as much fun as my .44 Specials are.

It’s one of those guns that you buy to fill a “want” void, not necessarily to fulfill a “need” role.... like a .45 Super long slide 1911, or a Bisley Blackhawk.32 H&R Mag, or a CZ Lux .22 rimfire rifle, or....

Stay safe.

In all reality, you are more likely to find .41MAG ammos on the shelf than you are 10mm. As far as components, what makes a .44 cartridge makes the same .41 cartridge, etc, etc. .41 bullets aren't on backorder, either... ;)

You know... I got it. Everyone has their favorites. My first centerfire was a .41... had it been a .44 or .357 I don't know if I would be bothering with the .41 like I do now, but it is what it is. As I mentioned previously... I no longer have a .357 or a .44... the .41 fills that role perfectly for me. YMMV. Need not be present to win. Do not fold, bend, spindle, or mutilate.

I’ve long considered getting into .41 - I seem to have two of everything around it (45, 44M, 44S, 357, 32 H&R, etc.) so might as well.

my favorite uncommon calibers (I won’t call them oddballs) are 44 Special (not just 44S in a 44M, but real 44 Specials) and 32 H&R. I have a BH Bisley in 44S and a Single Six Bisley in 32 H&R, both 7-1/2”. They’re both wicked accurate out to as far as I want to shoot with a revolver (usually 50 yards or so, but occasionally out to 100 or so). In the 44 I can shoot the “Skeeter” load, which I juice up just a bit, and get a 245 grain hardcast up to 1,125fps and about 650 fpe. As Mr. Skelton once said (loosely), that’ll kill pretty much anything that needs killin. The 32 is just plain fun - 85 or 95 grain cast bullets at 1000-1100 FPS and almost zero recoil. Perfect for plinking or small game if center fire pistol is allowed where you roam.

My first centerfire was a .41...
I was gifted my .41 Blackhawk by my dad and was my first handgun. If I could only have one it’s what I would choose.

I picked up a 44 special blackhawk last year and it had been a constant companion I really enjoy the cartridge. I think the next revolver I get will be a 32 h&r I like the not so mainstream calibers.

I don't want to hijack a thread, but I could sing the praises of the 32 H&R Magnum until...well, for a long time. I don't have any cows to come home. Such a great cartridge, fun to reload and shoot, accurate as all get-out, and just uncommon enough to tickle that uniqueness itch. Maybe my favorite.

I just suggested it because components are easier to source in general.
Our local stores have actually had 10mm most of the time. It was kind of shocking.
I like 357s. But if I want running one. It would either be the 10 or a 41.
I lean toward the 10 because I run a 40.

Brutal.

I owned this 657 for a short time.

A very good friend of mine had one of those, asked if I wanted to buy it. I politely declined. I did take him up on his 6" Dan Wesson .41, however.

I have 2 4" .41's... and I think they are a perfect balance of what a revolver should be, particularly a Magnum. I don't know what it is, though... 3" just doesn't ring my bell. I did have a 3" J-frame in .38... now THAT was the hot setup!

With all that being said, I’m talking myself out of it. I could get a 44 magnum and load some lower recoil rounds (44 special). But, it wouldn’t be unique and something about 41 mag between a 357 and 44 is appealing to me.

Don't talk yourself out of it. The 41 is a fun cartridge to shoot and is easy to load for. And not just everybody has one! I just bought a H&G bullet mold in the Keith Type SWC. I haven't cast with it yet, I'm waiting on the weather to warm up some.

I'm old enough to remember when some departments wouldn't permit the carry of the 44 mag, thanks to Dirty Harry. But they did allow the 41. When I lived in Texas in the early 8os a friend had two 29s, one 6" and one 4". One in each hand, full house loads DA. He didn't leave much of the bull at 25 yards. I couldn't do that good with a 357.

I myself was pretty hot for one a couple months back. Very lightly used 6.5" Ruger Blackhawk Bisley, just excellent shape and the price of admission was right.
Plenty of powder and primers on hand, the only thing that kept me from buying was no dies and couldn't find a set to save my life, couldn't find any projectiles at the time either.

Shoulda just bought the thing anyway.....

The other consideration would be the fact that 41 mag uses large pistol primers. I would have to do some trading of my small pistol and rifle to get large pistol. I think that would be pretty easy since small pistol and rifle are in the most demand.

I was gifted my .41 Blackhawk by my dad and was my first handgun.

The downside to the .41 as my first pistol was... it took me almost 10 years to UNLEARN all the bad habits I developed shooting a .41 as my first pistol. Thank heavens my 2nd handgun was a Browning Buckmark .22LR...

Fortunately I was already reloading when I got mine so I didn’t have to suffer through getting beat up with full house loads. Mostly 7-8gn universal under a 215gn lswc.
