Has reloading paid off?

Reloading has paid off for me. More accurate AND cheaper than off the shelf blammo ammo.

One caliber I load is 480 Ruger. Price a box of that if you want sticker shock! :what: Then try to find a box! :cuss:

But I can load a box of 480 for less than half the cost of factory using new brass, and less than a quarter of the cost using my previously fired brass. That's a savings of about $30 per box.

Definitely paid off for me - in more ways than one. First, I enjoy it. I think I shoot to reload more than reload to shoot. Have expanded my horizons and reload for myself and my brothers. We get to spend time at the range when we get together with my dad's old guns. Great way to spend some time together and remember him. He taught us to shoot and be safe and a ton of other life lessons. Miss him, but I think he would be happy to know we take time to get together and reminisce.

Additionally, reloading helps me shoot calibers that I otherwise wouldn't be able to, like 357 Sig and 6.5 Grendel (Rapidly becoming my two favorite calibers). These are not available from Walmart generally. Finally, I made a hobby of buying estate sales over the years and upgrading my equipment - wheeling and dealing to the point my hobby has probably made me a few dollars and provided an a lot of fun figuring out some of the goodies I have gotten over the years. I almost always learn something new!
 
With all the thrash that is going on with finding reloading components I have not felt any of it. I have a good stock of what I shoot along with extra components to make more. Has reloading paid off for me? Simply put yes! We all agree the cost and how accurate we make our reloads is an easy argument of why we reload. What I find better than that is the pure enjoyment I get out of it. It is a great way for me to relax and take my mind off the world and for that it is priceless.

When you can shoot premium ammunition tailored to your specific firearms to maximize accuracy, and do it for a fraction of the cost of factory generic ammo?

At one time several years ago, I bought a set of 4 Lee 9MM dies, figuring with the price of 9mm I would probably never use them because you could by 9mm almost as cheap as .22, but, they were on sale so I figured I have a 9 I might as well get them, might need to reload them some day. Now, most members of my immediate family has or carries a 9mm of some sort and with this most recent mess (not counting the last shortage) I am glad I did, I have enough supplies to get my family through, and I can still go out and shoot a little every now and then if I want to without worrying about running out of ammo for any of my guns.

Short answer, yeah it was worth it, and yeah, today, I can honestly say I actually save money because I reload (I bought a lot of my supplies before the current craziness), and I have more accurate ammo to boot. I can wait until the big box stores have something in stock if I need something (I wont pay gouger prices).

Like others, I also find it pretty relaxing and enjoyable since I am one of those guys that can't just sit and watch tv.
