I am looking for a load for 357 Magnum for Sierra .357 170 grain FMJ. no luck with my 48th edition Lyman or the 49th edition either. Usually i can find a load for a new bullet on the net but not this time.

I have found loads for Jacketed HP on either side of my target weight, but not for FMJ round nose, is there a big difference between round nose and HP?

I purchased these bullets on a whim and before I checked for my normal load things just because they were in stock and now I have this dilemma go figure.

If anyone can give me a little advice it would be appreciated, I sent my SIL a SW revolver but she can't find any ammo, so I made her up a couple hundred 38 special and wanted to send 50 rounds of 357 with them too. Wife is driving up there in a couple weeks.

Thanks, Keith

Use 2400, H110, HS-6 or AA#9 if you have or can get any. Most forgiving and if your initial educated guess is off by 1/2 grain it won’t matter as much as compared to Bullseye, Tightgroup, etc.

Start with published data for any 180gr jacketed bullet.

FYI, I’ve used this logic quite a bit in my own load development with no published data.

Use 180 grain load data.
The longer nose of the RN should put you close to the same overall length as a 180.
In this situation. I would not advise H110 or CFE-P. In my experience they aren't as forgiving on the light charge side.
Something between Universal and 2400 should work well.

Thanks, I was going to use 2400, I will give it a go and report back. To my other question, curious, have you found any difference between round nose and hollow point bullets of the same weight?

I couldn't find the 170 grain on Sierra's site at all, was thinking it was discontinued or something.

Thanks, Keith

For pressure and velocity? No difference. To make two leaking holes in an animal? Big difference. Note the table @fxvr5 posted. A grain or more spread for H110 or AA#9, thus why I said 1/2 grain error won’t matter.

Have fun workin this up Keith!
