Cheap AR success.

Oh yeah I got a cheap AR and it shot like 6 to 8 inches at 100 yards. Then some go and no-go gauges. My cheap barrel swallowed the no go gauge with no hesitation. I got a Delton barrel, the go gauge goes in tight and 100yd groups looks like that.

Looks like a great shooter. What rifling twist in that Delton and what ammo made that group?

Hmm. I was going to buy a Del ton rifle, unused for $400. The guy needed money fast and this was not quite a year after VT passed their stupid UBC B*S* and when I told him we had to do a transfer at my expense he ghosted me, a friend of mine told me he just private saled it anyway. That's what I get for being law abiding. Great job Governor Phil!

Cheap AR's have been known to surprise folks, especially when they outshoot rifles costing 4×-5× as much. My PSA will shoot MOA with certain ammo.

I have a Delton Sport, very similar to what you have, that I sighted in at 50 yards with irons. Imagine my surprise when a $400 rifle with a $20 UTG rear sight put 5 shots into just over a 1" group (measured with a multi-tool ruler). 2 MOA, 3 MOA, call it whatever, I'll gladly take it.

A 10x scope and better quality ammo would probably tighten it up even further, but I am happy with where it's at. For comparison, I was sighting in an SKS that same day that was throwing 3" groups at 50, so that box-stock AR was already looking pretty dandy.

Even an inexpensive AR build can be pretty accurate and they are still very fun to shoot.

I am by no stretch of the imagination an AR guy, but several years ago when I figured out I could build them for <$550, I decided I had nothing to lose. No-name lowers, Delton kits and 200 yd. targets with issue-style sights-



Even the wonky, wobbly, carbine didn't do too bad-



But the real surprise was the 7.62x39 carbine kit from Bear Creek Arsenal. This is the first five shots after the build with Monarch steel case ammo-



Still not really interested in them, but something has to occupy the back row of the safe!

I love building cheap ARs. I built one to hunt deer with last season it was a 350 Legend complete upper I picked up on sale for $229.99. It was a 18" complete barreled upper w/charging handle & bolt/bolt carrier. I put it on a 80% lower with a cheap lower kit & complete stock group I paid $40 each for. I bought a used Simmons 4x12x40 scope for $60 & mounted it on a UTG scope mount for $30 then picked up a 350 mag for $20.
All totaled I got about $425 into it & it shoots 100 yd 5 round targets like this.

It makes bringing home the freezer meat easy.

If I was going to "buy good buy barrels" in anticipation of the atf making ar15 barrels a "reciever" Delton would probably be my second choice, that's assuming my first choice is available and the price hasn't gone up much.
