Well I have been saving for a couple of months now and I am ready to build my long range AR. I did alot of reasearch and came up with this:
Model 1 Sales Upper/barrel 1/8twist 24"complete less stripped lower : $535
Del-Ton stripped lower:$95 or
DPMS stripped:$115 or
LRB :$86
Scope : ? alitte help Under $300
Mags: ?

$700 is my budget for the rifle. If there is something that you think I might need help me out. Thanks George Jr.

IMO.. Throw in a bit more of money and find an RRA upper.

I only have experience with DPMS but I love them.

Scope? I have a cheap 80$ red-dot which works great for me.. I would think a mueller APV would work well, it's nice for a $200 scope.

Mags? Depending where you are, Pmags are popular. But I like regular USGI mags 20 and 30 rounders.. Personally I look for 5.56 colt marked 20 rounders with alloy followers.

Go over to www.ar15.com and go in Equipment Exchange you will be able to find mags and scopes there for a fair price, along with many other things.

J&T Distributing sells a varmint rifle kit for $545. I have assembled several J&T kits with no issues. I have had problems with Model 1 parts, specifically a purple upper receiver, a hammer with a hole drilled at an angle and burrs on disconnectors.

Ok I built a rifle very similar to what the op wants to build. Mine is a DPMS lower with DPMS parts kit, A2 Stock assembly, and a Model 1 Sales upper with a 24" stainless bbl (1-8 twist). We were making 440 yard shots and hitting targets that are 3" by 6". We are looking for longer range to truly see what this gun can do. I am also looking into match grade trigger groups to further improve this gun. I currently have a BSA 4-16x40 mil-dot scope on it.

Go to samplelist.com and order a super sniper. I have never used one, but heard they are good, plus the price is right on that website. You could also do yourself a favor and get a Leupold Mark 4 or a Nightforce. There is no point in using a cheap scope, other than saving money. Save up for a couple of months and get something good.

For the best price on mags hit 44mag.com. Brand new USGI 30 rounders for just under $10, regular price. Orders over $100 ship free.

When I bought mine I bought eleven to bump the order up over $100.
