Reminiscing in another thread made me nostalgic for a pocket 22 auto, but as I really don’t have much of a real use for one I probably don’t want to spring for a Beretta. The Taurus can be had new for around $250 so that’s not a terrible extravagance...IF it actually works. Anybody have any experience with them? It’s essentially a polymer framed copy of the Beretta tip-up design.

I own two PLYs. Both are reliable with CCI Mini-mags and Remington Golden bullets.
I also have experience with the PT-22 and fine them to be a good bargain if you can find them as the PLY model replaced the PT model.

I have been known to carry the PLY model as a back up to my PT732 in .32 ACP during the hot and humid summer months.
Recently I've gone over to the Taurus G2S in 9x19.

The PLY model can be carried in a pocket holster with no problems.

I own the older, aluminum-framed PT22. It was made in 1998, and I got it in 2012. I like it a lot, enough that when I saw a PT25 from the same era (1996) in the same store a few years later, I picked that one up, too.

For a pocket-plinker, I'd prefer the PT for its heft and slightly-longer barrel but, for carry, I'd go with the PLY (if choosing between these two.)

My experience mirrors that of jar (post 2) in that my Taurus is much more functional that my 21A Bobcat. I've only tried the Beretta so far with MiniMags. The Taurus has been run with those and with Federal AutoMatch, and has yet to malfunction.

No, it's a Taurus, worst cs in the industry. They don't stand behind their product, and will use you as a beta tester.

Walther p22 would be an alternative.

My PT-22 was not a good gun. Total jammer, ejected entire live rounds, caught a live round when the slide returned and bent it in half. YMMV.

I also have a Walther PPK/s in 22lr and of the three 22lr pocket pistols it is the most reliable and most forgiving of ammo variations. It has literally eaten any brand, any version of 22LR I've put in it. But it is significantly larger and heavier than either the PT22-Ply or the Bobcat.

I will admit though that it is the Bobcat that's loaded right now.

The original PT-22 had an internet reputation for being a "Jammomatic",,,
The internet buzz about the 22-PLY has been the opposite.

The funny thing about the gun is it's nomenclature,,,
I own both the 22-PLY and the 25-PLY,,,
But nowhere is that on the pistols.

Taurus used the slides from the original PT-22/25's for the PLY version,,,
This prompts a bit if confusion as to which pistol one may actually have in hand.

I've never seen the polymer 22-PLY or 25-PLY with that nomenclature,,,
They have always had the PT-22/25 engraved on the slides.

I have owned my guns for many years now,,,

The 25-PLY has never ever malfunctioned for me,,,
The 22-PLY will eventually fail to eject if you let it get dirty.

One must remember that these pistols do not have ejectors,,,
Do one must keep the barrel/chamber squeaky clean.

Run CCI Mini Mags Round Nose in the 22-PLY,,,
You get about 200 rounds before it starts crudding up.

Great little mouse guns in my opinion.

I've owned all the 22 mouse guns.

The original pt-22 had a small part that would break like clock work and you have to keep several on hand.

The ply redesign doesn't have that part. As mentioned mine ran cci mini mag /hp no problem until it gunks up and slows down.

My Beretta bobcat had less rounds between intervals. I kept the ply 22 the longest.

Carries great in a pocket uncle mikes number 1 I think it was. Spare mag in the watch pocket.

Some YouTube videos showed the 22lr rounds from a ply tearing through some 2x4s .

Some of the 38s like lcrs /airweights are a couple more ounces but I sure felt better armed...

Sold it as I prefer a larger 22 for range and these small guns are for hideout pieces.

I'm curious about the lcr 22 though. Lgs has one...

I have owned a 22-PLY for a half dozen years. Zero issues with any ammo...even bulk Remington "golden" 22lr. Mine is surprisingly accurate out to 10 yards. For ~$200 its a nice inexpensive training gun for those that pocket carry small pistols.

I had one. It went bang every time. The trigger was terrible. Yeah, there was some kind of plastic buffer inside that you had to replace every so often (or whenever it broke).
