Found two pounds of alliant 10x that I plan on loading up some speer 150s with. Any good or bad experiences with this powder before I load em up.

I have had pretty good results with the starting load of 36.5 gr of Reloder 10x with the Nosler 155 gr Custom Competition BTHP in a PSA PA-10. Was looking for a mild, but accurate load for the gas gun, easy on recoil and brass, too.

Reloader 10 was introduced back when the PPC cartridges were gaining popularity in benchrest circles. As intended, It was well matched for the 6PPC and initially well received. But it also proved to be a dirty powder, even at high pressure loading. Meaning the initial enthusiasm soon evaporated and BR shooters returning their former favorites. Along with other major changes by Alliant, production of the Reloader line was changed and #10 is now make in Sweden and marked with the "NEW" label. It is now a much different and cleaner burning powder.and ideal for small caliber target and varmint calibers.

I'll load it in 30 30 barring a better answer. Seems well suited.

I burned up about 4 lbs of it in 223 loads until I found TAC now it is seldom used anymore. Still have a pound in the pile somewhere.
Load data tops out at 52 grains in there manual. What bullets did you use? Did you go heavier?

I purchased a few pounds cheap from another reloader and loaded a lot of 45 grain bullets I purchased for my 22 Hornet that were too thick jacketed for use in my Mini 14's. Then I got into bolts and AR's consequently I discovered TAC and 62-63 grain bullets. Have tried up into the mid 70's but liked the 62 FMJ/ SP for accurate blasting ammo. 55's now in the Mini's.

If you have any load information for a 55 I would appreciate it. Its definitely not a far reach but using 55s opens up a lot more options. If not I'm going to extrapolate.

Alliant and Speer show a maximum load of 23.0 gr of Reloder 10x with a 55 gr bullet for .223 Rem. I ran it at 22.5 gr for decent accuracy with 55 gr FMJ (decent for 55 gr FMJ Wolf anyway). Reliable functioning in 4 AR’s.

20210519_103510.jpg Here is a pix of the 2009 Alliant reloaders guide. IIRC my load was CCI 400, mixed brass and either 22.5 or 22.6 grains of 10X at the same OAL as a Remington factory 55 FMJ.

They call 23 grains as max load in their on line manual. I have found that 23.2 delivers slightly better accuracy and no pressure signs. This is with a 55 grain bullet. It's a fast burning powder and is best for light loads. I have a lot of 55 grain soft points loaded with this powder for use in bolt guns. I also like AA2015 powder with similar accuracy and burn speed but if light bullets is your thing RL10x is a good choice.

I have several manuals from various sorces spanning the last 70 years or so. They come in handy when you find that vintage can of propellant so you can use matching data. Also try to find a load for a Stevens 22 1/2 rifle in 25-20 Single Shot. I have a bunch of data. Also many others that nobody bothers to reload for these days. Reloading, casting, and manual collecting are sub hobbies of the shooting sports to any avid enthusiast.
