Not really a flier just not quite as tight as the others. It's still in the 10 ring. Overall a real nice group.

The worst is when it is the last group of the day and you HAVE to load up while struggling with it. I can only image the pain of that horrendously posted *group*.

If the bullet hole away from the group is the first shot are not all the others (one whole group) the flyers ? Whadda you think ?

I don’t count first fliers. Any flier is an anomaly unless there’s more than one and at that point it becomes part of the spread.

If the first cold shot is repetitively, the "flyer", its not necessarily "the flyer". Thats the round you want to zero on.

If the last round is the flyer, don't be looking at the group through your spotting scope as you shoot. The tighter the first 4, or 9, etc, the higher the pressure on you that last shot is going to be. (key up Hank Jr's "The Pressure Is On"). Dont you blow it now.

Maybe the guy next to you put it there.

I have done that while shooting with a friend while getting ready for a match. He couldn't figure out why he had two 3" out at 2 o'clock until he counted holes.

Fairly common occurrence @ my house. Usually caused by overconfidence with the string and letting down on concentration, IMO. You know what they say about the fat lady singing....

That flyer should be much further away from the other hits in the group.
I know, because I have been doing it for quite some time now.

I think what you’re calling a flier is actually a fouling shot.

Do you watch them as you shoot? Or just "read them and weep"?

The latter is your better bet.

My flier is always my 4th or 5th shot because I looked at the group thru my scope and I then get nervous. Referred to prior as “the pressure”, I fold like a cheap suit and always blame the rifle when I know it was really me choking on the shot. It is funny how your mind always wants to protect itself from mistakes; group fliers are no different than a first wife, the lost assets in the divorce and the promise that the next one is somehow going to be better. Or maybe a group flier is really like God’s great joke on human males that we like to call testosterone?????
