Colt/CZ or CZ/Colt?

a colt1.jpg Now that CZ has bought out Colt I am wondering what the future will be for the company. Continue making the current line of Colt's, revolvers, semi-automatic handguns and AR's? Or push the CZ line of current models? Will the take over make Colt guns that were made prior to the buy out more valuable? You know what I mean. "I have a Colt .45 1911 made pre-CZ for sale. $3,000, you know their not making them any more." Or the New, New Python, made by CZ for $1200.00. What I know is that I'm sold on CZ products and am going to watch this transition closely.
 
CZ got two things for its money that should prove valuable in the long run. They got a brand name that smacks of the American frontier in all its romantic, Hollywood enhanced glory; and a genuine domestic production facility with history and past contracts that should help it win supply contracts with US, Canada and other governments. Emphasis will be on the Colt name.

There will be the inevitable culture conflict, but I suspect that all realize that things had to change if the Colt was to have a bright future. Yes, pre-CZ Colts will be in demand because collectors are big on limited, no longer made products. Production may occur in places other than Connecticut. I believe the brand will once again produce noteworthy firearms, and that we have a newly energized ally in the industry. Everyone should have a Colt revolver and a skorpion.
 
Either way, either name, will be great for both companies.

More importantly, it will be great for us, the shooting public!

I’m confident there will be a 45 Colt Anaconda within 5 years.

I'm a fan of CZ pistols, and I think they are quite well made, so I don't
expect "Colt quality" to lessen (like when Remington was sold). I do
have some Colt 1911's, and I do expect "original Colts to increase in
value; it seems logical to me.
 
If CZ can make Dan Wesson one of the best production 1911s out there, then Colt has a bright future.
I do believe that people will use this as an opportunity to push the collectibility of "pre-CZ" Colts just as they have used the "pre-Ruger" Marlin idea to push up the price of Marlin lever guns. They're nearly double the price of what they used to be a few years ago.
 
I would call it CZ-USA, Colt Division. I see this acquisition as being a Win/Win/Win for CZ, Colt, and gun enthusiasts. Hopefully CZs success at being a gun manufacturer can translate into Colt being more productive, innovative, and quality control conscious and get more product out in the commercial marketplace.
 
Czolt, the "C" is silent. Just to hear the talking heads lament "all the Czolt's gunning down the youts on Chicago's streets" would have massive entertainment value. Joe

I had something eerily similar. Czolt, but the "z" is silent.
 
I figured they'd probably keep/reboot the civilian AR line (since CZ doesn't produce an AR) and the revolvers. Fills a couple holes in their product lineup, especially since Dan Wesson no long produces revolvers. Anything on top of that, like maybe 1911s, is gravy.
 
CZ Group is the new parent company for CZ-UB, CZ-USA, Colt USA and Colt Canada. CZ, to the best of my knowledge. has no plans to change anything Colt is doing right now, but will probably expand production here in the US for CZ products, (my guess), in the future. But for Colt branded products, I wouldn't expect anything to change right away. I AM hoping that BREN 2 production might get moved to the Colt factory, but far more likely the P-10 lineup will be produced domestically. There were some P-10S models US made, before they started work on the Little Rock factory, but that work stopped when the plandemic started...IIRC. We'll see. CZ-USA are playing the cards close to the vest right now.
 
Bet that anything Colt will be called Colt and CZ will still be called CZ. There's no need to marry the names or hyphenate them, at least on the guns themselves. Maybe in small print somewhere on a user manual it'll say "Colt® is a trademark of CZ USA" or something. Anything labeled CZ will have no mention of Colt.
 
If CZ would choose to invest a little money in Colt it might be surprising just how competitive they could be, the problem has been with the way the company has been managed for several decades. There is a good demand for Colt's core products, all they need to do is ensure the quality is there and up the production and I have no doubt it will be very profitable.

Well, the crass might point out the multi-million military contracts that both Colt and Dimarco (Colt Canada) have.

Now, it's funny to see how many people are "So why haven't they done anything yet?" The final paperwork was only completed in April. There's been barely any time to do things like decide if factories need relocating or the like. The current product lines still sell without any change in who/what/where/how.
"We" may want all sorts of spiffy new stuff or renewed sales of spiffy old stuff. Only time will tell.
 
Colt did receive a contract to supply Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Federated States of Micronesia, Hungary, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Palau, St. Vincent and Grenadines and Tunisia back in 2019 when they announced they were out of the civilian market.

FN became primary provider of M4s back in 2013.

I think you are 100% correct it's sheer lunacy to buy a company with a legacy name and then drop that name

But seriously, I think it's a positive development. I think of it primarily in terms of more/better colt revolvers, but I wonder if we could see a proliferation of the bren 2?

Or what better symbol of the merger than the fan wesson dwx? A love child of the 1911 and the cz75. Rebrand it as the Colt-Z and let it be the flagship product of the new face of colt.
