I've decided that cross draw is what works for me, at least when carrying a full-sized handgun. My midsection is just too short to allow a strong side draw without having to lean way over to my left.

I always carry at least one reload and vertical mag carry isn't going to work.....so I'm thinking horizontal is the way-to-go.

Anyone have good horizontal mag carrier suggestions? I'd like black leather, for a single stack 1911 in .45.

Thanks!

I've always thought of magazines being carried parallel or perpendicular, rather than vertical and horizontal. ;)

Wes over at Privateer Leather has cross-draw magazine holsters that are great. They ride on the strong side and are angled forward; so you cross draw the magazine with your weak side hand. I had him make me one for my P239 and one for my P320.

Send him an email- he's usually pretty responsive.

Hmm....forward-canted spare mag carrier......didn't think of that one. Might work! If I get a cross draw holster I'll give that a look. It would allow the spare mag to be on my right side, better balancing the weight.

(I have enough on my weak side already as I keep flashlight and pepper spray there and those aren't moving!)

You need a miami classic shoulder rig. The one I got for 1911 has horizontal mag slots on the weak side with tension screws.

Good suggestions guys, thanks.

I plan to check in on at least the Privateer and maybe the Alien Gear.

I actually have the Miami Classic shoulder rig but it didn't suit me all that well.....I ended up with an Andrews' Leather Monarch which is a much better rig but I can't wear a shoulder holster in summer (at least not that much). I can open carry with it in summer but I don't think shoulder holsters are really cut out for open carry..
