Until today, the winner of my 'best ever packaging' award went to Montana Bullet Works -- which still deserves credit for their efforts in making sure their cast bullets ship undamaged.

However, today I had a package come from Graf's with a box of Acme + powder-coated 9mm bullets that, well, just look at this box:

Yes, that is indeed a remarkably small strapped plywood box -- my last refrigerator wasn't packed this securely! This is my first experience with Acme so I can't tell whether I'm the 100th customer or this is SOP, but I'm definitely reusing this box.

My last order of bulk-packaged bullets before this was 1K of Berry's plated 9mm via Midway, and they came in an inadequately-constructed cardboard box inside another cardboard box. The inside box split open during shipping and I had to help my postman gather up about two dozen bullets that spilled out between the edges of the outer box and all over the floor of his van.

Since the great pandemic we've all needed to ship things and have things shipped more often than ever. Anyone else care to share shipping horror stories -- or praise rare triumphs of real customer service?

Ive got a box of the 158 Acmes, same box same shipping....from midway or Grafs I cant remember. Midways repackaged stuff comes in an OK box most of the time, but anything that resembles rough handling usually splits them open. Ive gotten a bunch of bags full of stuff from the post office because the boxes they were in exploded......they do a surprisingly good job of collecting run away brass and bullets.

I have three of those wood boxes at the house from Graf's. I laughed when I unpacked the shipping container and pulled them out. They definitely make an impression.

My two favorite places are MidwayUSA and SGammo. Both have great customer service.

Midway is great but could stand to package things a little better than just air bags. I don't like to order metal ammo cans and anything else in the same order because the heavy ammo can usually damages other items to some extent. I order strategically to help avoid damaged items.

SGammo does a great job of making sure UPS can't tenderize my ammo.

Wow.
The worst packaging I have gotten was from Xtreme.
But then I realized that their boxes were based on units of 1500 instead of the usual 1000 or 2000. I had ordered 2000 and got a box of 1500 and a box of 500, the single box was in the same size flat rate box as the 1500 and was leaking badly, although I only lost a few bullets.
The last couple of batches of 1500 I ordered were boxed tight and stout.

Brazos sends you bullets in heavy heat sealed bags in a pretty good box. No problem in three tries. Their oddity is that they sell by weight, you get 15 pounds per bag, the count is just whatever it comes out for that bullet weight.

BBI has two sizes of box; a big order is two of each in an outer box, count fudged by weight. They have quit using the mails, so what you got in a flat rate box of 124 9mms was 3500, but a case sent UPS is 2625.

I’ve ordered directly from Acme, same boxes, very nicely done, and actually attractive and reusable.

Missouri Bullets also does a nice job of packing, using their own small heavy duty cardboard boxes.

I always order directly from Acme and have had great service. The boxes also change with the seasons (Merry Christmas, Happy Easter) which is a nice touch.

Midways packaging is absolutley ridiculous. Ive had a number of shipments from them with heavy stuff and fragile stuff in the same box, and one little air bubble that was supposed to protect things. And their shipping isn't cheap! What a joke!

Complained a number of times and they've even had to replace a couple of things, but I guess they save more money on air bubbles than they do replacing things. I only order from them anymore if they are the only ones that have what I need.

Ive ordered from Acme a number of times and have a number of those boxes. No nonsense there. Missouri, Xtreme, Everglades, are others that understand how to pack things.

One time I ordered from midway a mil ballistics card and some other stuff, had to be put in 3 boxes. One box had only the card, witch would probably fit in a Envelope. It was shipped in a box bigger then a flat rate medium box but taller and had about 10 feet of the inflatable bubble wrap stuff. both other boxes had room for 10 of those ballistics cards.

That ACME box would end up as man room decor for sure.

On receipt of my last Larry order a week ago, some loose hardcast bullets were rolling around outside the bullet box in the main box. Eight or so heavies. I was a bit peeved. The main box wasn't fully taped and it would be no issue for some to find escape route. I count them all looking for 500 and get this; I end up with 501.

I had a box of ACME 450 gr RNFP for my .45/70’s somehow get loose in the shipping box with three other ACME boxes. The outer cardboard box was torn open and the wooden box was smooshed from the impact of the other boxes rattling around, dumping bullets all over the place and losing about 13 or 14 450 gr bullets in transit.

ACME is a stand up company. They sent me a whole new box to replace the damaged box/ 13-odd lost bullets.

Brazos and Eggleston both ship in thick plastic bags inside the outer box. I’ve never had one of those break.

Stay safe.

Graf's has been my main ammo/reloading/parts place for years.

Years ago I tried to order some 7.5x55 swiss brass and a Graf's rep called me to let me know they were out. Hard to find back then. He said they could resize and trim some .284 brass for about the same price. Worked perfectly!

My stash of 7.5 Swiss all came from Grafs. Some have FNM Portuguese headstamps, but the bulk bear Graf's own headstamp.

BTW, I just took home a 'new' K1911 from my LGS on Tuesday.
