Been looking for a folding knife with a hoof pick for my granddaughter. The Buck Crosslock model seems to be a highly rated one, but was discontinued a few years ago.

She’s a HS senior this year, enchanted with animals in general, and horses specifically. Works part time at a county park with horses and was a horse counselor at a camp this summer. Looked at 5 colleges so far with equine studies programs and will go pre-vet.

She’s a great kid, uses the current knife I gave her to cut hay bale strings, and has a pick, but figured a knife with pick would be a handy combination. I want to get her a good quality present she can use, but most of the available knives with picks I see aren’t rated well.

Anybody know where that Buck might be available or of a well made pocket knife with a pick and locking blade?

I dint know where to find the Buck knife, probably try Ebay.
I have a folding hoof pick somewhere around here. It fits easily in a pocket. If I can find it ill send it to you.
Thank you!

I’ve checked EBay a few times, but haven’t seen the Buck. Other sources show it, but when delved into, all out of stock.

I've never seen a Buck with that feature. They may have made one years ago, but they certainly aren't listed now. Nor any time in the last few years. If it has to be a Buck you're going to have to find a used one.

I hope she liked at University of Florida for a Vet School!

I am about three blocks from the Vet school as I type.

Unfortunately in the Emergency Department of the people hospital.

yep wife had a fall from a horse this morning.

60 something just does not bounce as well as 18!

Hope all turns out well and she’s soon back in the saddle again.

Wife defiantly recovering though pain is giving her fits. Insisted on doing some cooking and processing wild grapes for canning this weekend

looked through some knives and horse stuff and can not find a hoof pick equipped one I thought I had bought a couple of horses back

wonder what I did with it?

If she wants a pretty complete set of hoof pedicure gear, there is one for sale here pretty reasonable. Six well used hoof knives (older fixed blade), 4 or 5 nippers, 5 rasp/files and a protractor, asking $50. Not pretty, but looks pretty functional. :D

Buy one and it will magically turn up.

After looking unsuccessfully for the unobtanium Buck knife, I just bought this Victorinox Equestrian as recommended by a couple of folks above.

It has a locking 3 1/2” main blade, a hoof pick, and a couple of other small tool blades.

I think she’ll be happy with it. Thanks to all for their input!

Personally, as someone who works with horses quite a bit, I prefer a fast to deploy sharp knife and a leatherman.

Plus one on that. I use the point of the pliers on my surge to pick feet out. I train horses and do farm work all day everyday and couldn't get by without the leatherman and a good knife. If it was more casual use or I was just looking for something handy to carry while riding, that victorinox looks like an excellent choice.

Gave it to my granddaughter yesterday and I'm happy to report she loved it!

I sat with her and walked her through all the uses for the smaller blades, she was impressed. She thought the little eyeglass screwdriver was cool. Made her laugh when I repeated something I'd seen on another site, a comment that he didn't think putting the toothpick next to the hood pick was such a great idea. lol

Funny thing also was I saw HSO's post above with a picture of this model which showed a saw blade, I couldn't find it and figured they'd eliminated it. Turns out it's totally flush when closed and can barely be seen. There's no nail nick, the tip of the blade extends out about a 1/16", and you're supposed to lift it with your nail and open it from the front. Glad I found it the day before and was able to show it to her.

She also liked that I had her name engraved on the knife by the store in Switzerland.

She told me she loved the paracord fob I'd made her, so that made me feel especially good.

Thanks again to all for your help!
