Good scope for reasonable price ?

I double checked because I thought Vortex's claim to fame was USA-made products. My Crossfire scopes are definitely stamped "Made in China" as per US law requirements if they are. You are correct and I apologize for my error.

I suspect pretty much everything in the OP's price range is made in China.
He can find a philippines made scope. Or a used scope. And quite frankly, if I wanted the very best possible product, cost no object, I'd still have it made in china. Their manufacturing plants are just better than america's. Now, I'd have a representative there in the country, inspect every one, and assume my IP was going to counterfeitted.

would like to find a good scope in the 300 dollar range . Is it wishful thinking?

I'm not going to suggest a specific scope, but rather a philosophy. I don't run a high dollar scope on my hunting rifle; I put that money into my field glasses and spotting scope. The scope is just for aiming the rifle. If you're an ethical/safe hunter, you're not "glassing" an area with your rifle scope. You need a quality, clear, high resolution spotter (i.e. expensive as heck) to verify if that animal is legal or not (and therefore worth your time to stalk it), and you need quality, clear field glasses to scan large areas of terrain looking for game. You'll spend more time looking through the field glasses, so make sure they don't strain your eyes. Spend your money on your binos and your spotter, cut costs on your rifle scope.

It should be good for seeing them 8 inch gongs out on the 200 yard line. My UTG Hunter 4x16x50 the BDC dot covers the gongs. That scope is riding on my .223 for now. I might put it on the 30.06 where the simmons is. And put the Athalon on the .223. They have some behind the 200 too. Im going to bring my range finder along to see what they are at. The 300 yard line as some small targets but you cant see them from the bench. So ill bring my portable bench along for when im ready to tackle them.

I have a similar version of that reticle in my Midas BTR, and have had no issues with it......besides the fact its the only Mil scope I own LOL

To be fair to America, we have either given or allowed our intellectual property to be stolen in return for lower prices.

A skilled worker in China makes less in a month that a dishwasher in a choke and puke restaurant makes in a day here. Bad news is it’s only going to get worse, here.

FWIW, if you were thinking about that Athlon Argos 2-10x, they just went on sale at CameralandNY.

Hadnt seen that yet....Looks like Party in a Box will be getting a new scope this month....

Not that my Athlon Argos binos are probably "really nice" by most standards on here, but it really is crazy how much better quality you get over the off the shelf cheapies at a big box store.

There is a lot of merit to buying some really nice binoculars.
Ill attest to that! Was out hunting yesterday morning,.and my dad kapu'd my binos last range trip (athlon talos)....i spent the whole day glassing with my rangefinder, which while optically pretty good for a relatively cheap monocular, still REALLY sucked.
Didnt suck as bad as trying to use his old pair to look down into the rising sun tho......

If im already paying shipping, might grab myself a nice bino from CL also....
