I've posted several questions on here about several cheaper and economy polymer guns for a good cheap full-size pistol to take while fishing and hunting . I considered the Canik, the SW Sd9VW , the Ruger Security 9 , the Shield 45 , and Stoeger STR9. Well I came across this old Ruger P90 45acp made in 1999 . Barely used with 2 mags and 40 rds of Speer Gold Dots. I've always been a P- series fan and owner but its rare these days to see one in such clean condition. She may be fat and chunky but she's runs like a well oiled sewing machine.

Ive often regretted selling mine- it was my first (and only) brand new handgun purchase. Stone reliable, if not terribly refined. One gripe I did have was the "stainless" bits always seemed unusually rust-prone. But keep it clean and lightly oiled and it will outlast us all.
BTW: P97 magazines work just fine and were still available from Ruger last time I looked a few years ago.

Nice score!

I've never owned or shot a P90 but I still have an old P94 I bought back in '99. It doesn't get carried anymore but I still take it out & shoot it occasionally. The Ruger P-series guns just work.

I got a police turn-in P90 for dirt cheap. It's been completely reliable. Its balance and the way it fits my hand aren't perfect for me, and the trigger pull isn't great, but I can shoot it about as accurately as most service pistols.

The P series are solid pistols. I have three. None of them has malfunctioned yet. I would feel confident counting on them for SD.

The P90, P97 and P345 all use the same magazines. There's a difference in part numbers, depending on if there's a "this gun'll shoot with magazine out" warning label, or not.

Congratulations on your P90.
With reasonable care it’ll last a lifetime+. I never cared for the mile long trigger pull, but they’re stone cold reliable. I still shoot mine occasionally just to keep it ‘limbered up’

I love mine. The original 7 round plastic follower mags are hard to find nowadays. Ruger "upgraded" the design to a skeletonized metal follower that allowed 8 rounds. However, the sharp front tip of the newer follower will put a small divot in the P90 feed ramp. My P90DC is amazingly accurate (especially for the price). It's a good platform for +P .45 loads (or even warmer).

The follower does have a tendency to jump forward. However, the contact point is usually below the feed ramp the Ruger P90/P97/P345 and on the frame and is usually not much of an issue.

That is the Devel follower, as used in the Chip McCormick (CMC) line-up of 1911 mags. CMC came out with an "aluminum safe" follower, subsequent to the discontinuation of the P90/P97/P345, called the PowerMag Plus follower. Theoretically, you could order these from CMC, but they don't show them on the CMC as an available part.

Here is the whole mag - which won't work in the Ruger P-Series - but if the issue bugged you enough you could buy the mag and swap followers in your Ruger mags.

I bought a mag rebuild kit from Wilson Combat and used the plastic follower to replace one of my other P90 mags. It worked great

Congratulations, it looks to be in very nice condition. I've had my P90DC for many years now with the same Hogue wrap around grips, its been accurate and reliable. Its also been a known issue, but dont use the mags with metal followers (I noticed you had one), they gouge the feed ramp as you can see in my 2nd photo. And it doesnt take many rounds for it to happen. It hasn't affected the feed, but I also polished it out the best I could when I first noticed it and I haven't used the 8 round mags with the metal followers since.
