I've been thinking about it for some time and I finally did it- bought a Ruger KP345

I've been interested in the Ruger P/KP345 since I read the first article I saw about it. For the past 6-12 months I've been fondling them every time I see them in a gunstore. Finally, today I just put down a downpayment on a KP345 with the balance to be paid when I pick it up after the MD background check/waiting period is up.

My first auto was a Ruger KP89. It was 100% reliable and obviously very durable, but I never liked it. It felt like a brick in my hand and was very inaccurate (I could do OK with other guns, but never with the P89 and friends could never shoot well with it either). At the time a friend had a P90 (same gun in .45ACP) which was very accurate, and I read some articles that basically said their .45s were generally quite accurate and that most Ruger 9mms gave barely "combat accuracy". Anyway, I was soured on Ruger autos, even knowing that the polymer 9mms were more accurate by reputation than the P89s and older P85s.

Well, the first time I grasped the KP345 it felt like it was made for my hand. It really felt good and pointed very well. It also has a decent trigger which is a nice change in a Ruger. A gun that combines Ruger reliability and durability with good ergonomics interested me. Since it is a .45 it should be more accurate than my P89 was and since it is a polymer it should be more accurate than my P89 was. If I can have accuracy, Ruger reliability and durability, and very good ergonomics I can see myself coming to love this gun.

I can't wait to pick it up and getting to shoot it (about a week and a half).

***Oh, not to hyjack my own thread, but before I left I noticed the P95s in the display. As I recall the polymer Rugers had always had the Ruger style grips with the horizontal groves. Well, these added pebbling and if I'm not mistaken looked a bit trimmer than they used to (but were obviously otherwise P95s and not a new 9mm version of the P345, which doesn't exist yet). It actually looked pretty good...if I like this KP345 I just might give the P95 a try since the new look looks pretty good and the price is right (under $400). Anyway, does anyone know when they went with the pebbling on the P95's grip, and is it actually trimmer than it was before or was that just an optical illusion?

Hmm, is it possible that I may yet become a fan of the Ruger auto?

Chaim,

We agree pretty frequently about guns for some reason, and I am curious to read your range report on that pistol. I have handled them several times, and I have been impressed with a couple of the features, but I have held back any real interest in it because it just feels weird to me.
