So I have done a lot of reading where it seems that only navy and artillery model Lugers were originally intended to be stocked and thus are the only ones allowed to be stocked. Yet that stock adapter remains on the standard lugers.
Why haven’t there been any pistol braces made to use this existing feature? You buy a Luger stock metal piece and an existing pistol brace (like a tail hook brace or something) and rig up something to connect the two?

Really? But isn’t it just a braced pistol. No different than any ar pistol?

Just asking y’all’s opinions and putting out some feelers before even considering it…

A “braced” pistol (as has become popular in the last decade or so) is legally a very VERY different thing than a detatchable shoulder stock. One is (at least for now, legally) a device to allow shooting inclusivity, while the other is a guaranteed trip to prison unless you have a tax stamp, or a specific combination of C&R firearm and appropriate accessory, together with a letter from ATF authorizing such, which may or may not actually cut legal mustard.

If you want to get a Luger and fit a holster stock regardless of whether it was done in the day or not, you legally can, PROVIDED you tax stamp it up legal-like and pay the ATF $200, etc etc. The reason nobody does…. Is because Lugers aren’t exactly common and affordable guns anyway, not known for their tactical excellence, so the crowd that might otherwise seek out a brace or a tactical SBR build…. pretty much just sticks to hardware designed in the 21st century.

I’m not talking about making a stock. I’m talking about getting a modern built pistol brace and putting it on a Luger. Why hasn’t this been done yet? It’s not like it would permanently alter the gun.

Perhaps it is because there are not a lot of Luger shooters.
Maybe it is because a "brace" is hard to tell from a stock and it would be even more debatable on a pistol actually made for a stock in the first place.

I’m thinking there are few who both own Lugers and feel like poking the bear a bit in regard to uncharted territory with the ATF. There are plenty of “daring” modern manufacturers who will roll out a new brace, but not a huge market for putting them on hundred year old collector pistols.

I think the OP is considering making up his own brace. It just sounds like trouble waiting to happen.
AR braces that are manufactured as such are one thing. Creating your own? I wouldn't go there.

Right now the legality of any brace is really up in the air. The comment period is over and we are all waiting to see what rule the ATF attempts to make into a law. If they do there will likely be court challenges. The way the proposal was worded there was a maximum and minimum wt for any pistol that could be braced.
My take is if you want a stock or brace on your pistol, do with a tax stamp if the ATF says you need one.

From the what I am reading here I wonder how many sent in comments to that ATF proposal.

What would make it any different that the varios braces you see on Glocks and a few others?

Doesn't seem to me it is, other than maybe a company got a letter from the ATF saying it was OK.

President has already been made in that respect, not that that necessarily means anyting to the ATF, as they often just seem the change and make up crap at a whim.

If you want to try it, don't take anyone's word here, call your local ATF office (DONT call D.C.) and ask. And if the response is positive ask for a letter stating that.

I dealt with our local ATF office on a number of occasions in the past and they were always helpful and professional. If you're going to mess around in the NFA world, it pays to have a contact there.

For $200 and a short wait you can make your stock , or put on an available one with a Form 1 "build" as it is not nor has ever been a rifle to SBR it.

I would guess that the set of people who own a Luger doesn't overlap much with the set of people who think "a pistol braced Luger, cool!"

I wouldn't put a brace on any of my Smiths. . . and they're way less sacred than a Luger.

I had a P.08 with the original shoulder stock, correctly called Anschlagschaft and the eye relief was horrible. I still have a Mauser C96 with an original stock and consider it a relic, too.

per the ATF

If a person has a pistol and an attachable shoulder stock, does this constitute possession of an NFA firearm?

Yes, unless the barrel of the pistol is at least 16 inches in length (and the overall length of the firearm with stock attached is at least 26 inches). However, certain stocked handguns, such as original semiautomatic Mauser “Broomhandles” and Lugers, have been removed from the purview of the NFA as collectors’ items.
